POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Part 2: Over the summer I challenged myself to photograph as many artists in their studios as possible. It was important to me to make each portrait as authentic to the artist as possible, trying to translate the colors, themes, materials, and space in each artists’ work to the photographic composition.

I photographed twenty artists. Two favorites each from the final ten pictured here.

Artists all tagged in the photos.

I'm available for future portrait work.

Early this summer, I had the opportunity to spend four weeks at @air_byrdcliffe as an artist in residence.

The cohort was an incredible group of talented creatives who shared work, creative practices, and deep conversations that propelled my work forward. I am incredibly grateful to each one of them for every moment.

In the first week, we presented to share a bit about how we’ve worked in the past and the goals we had for our residencies. The last week was full of studio visits and an open studios/ reading to the public.

I am so grateful to the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild for this opportunity. And of course, the talented artists who helped make it all happen @eeeyoin and @art_by_brielle!

More to come soon on the work I made while in residence.

Jack Catlett
somewhere on the aminal-plane (45), 2026
wax pastel and pencil on Flāv Corp™ embossed paper, 22” x 30”

Jack Catlett Statement:
My art practice is an attempt to forfeit control. Control is inherently a part of my nature, as an employee of the Flāv Corporation. Here at Flāv Corp, we synthesize energy extracted from living organisms into consumer-facing products, like our most popular beverage, Flāv Original: All-Natural Happiness in a Can™.
My art practice is an attempt to control that which has been forfeited. Nauts are the unemployed, mystical beings that flow along the forest floor. When I unzip my Flāv Corp uniform, unlace my shoes, and squeeze the soil with my toes, I shall dance among the nauts.
My own path is that of a naut bound by contractual employment. My art practice is an expression of my experiences.

Now on view in Elemental Effervescence, curated by Yasmeen Abdallah.

DM or email us at info@theiwgallery.com for any inquiries.

The IW Gallery is open Tuesdays from 1 to 6 pm and other days by appointment only.

Thank you to the artists, friends, collectors, curators, and members of the community who joined us to celebrate the opening of the exhibition.

Curated by Yasmeen Abdallah, Elemental Effervescence brings together fifteen artists whose paths intersect through Pratt Institute, exploring the connective power of artistic practice and the ways creative inquiry can foster dialogue, reflection, and belonging.

The IW Gallery presents the group exhibition, Elemental Effervescence curated by Yasmeen Abdallah.

This exhibition traverses across the expanses of the natural and manmade world, where we hold space for deep reflection. Aligned in a quest to engage through heartened investigations, processes that mine materiality, existentialism, and place-making bridge a collective consciousness of a world inhabited in the present moment. Each of the fifteen Pratt alumni in Elemental Effervescence succinctly bend, shift, and sway the world in majestic and sublime ways, demonstrating how artists strengthen societies through deeply empathic work.
