Mix of mild and spicy micro green salad tonight that was cut fresh off of our Tower Garden! I love that I got our Tower Garden up and running again. Don’t have to wait until Spring to enjoy home grown veggies and herbs. 🥰#towergarden #homegrown #freshlettuce

I took a little break for Christmas but I’m back having fun on my tour. I’m in OLATHE, KANSAS, USA and I’m celebrating Christmas with

Mike’s post made me start wondering about the tradition of stockings by the fireplace. .
.
.
.
Google says the tradition started with gold coins and is based off an old monk named Sinter Klaus who was born March 15, 270 AD but was also known as Saint Nicholas.
.
.
.
The story starts with a poor, widowed man left to raise his three daughters. Back then, young women without a dowry were unable to marry and would often turn to prostitution as a means to make a living. .
.
.
.
Saint Nicholas wanted to discreetly help the family and would leave bags of gold near their chimney. The third bag of gold accidentally fell into one of the girls’ stockings that was hung, drying, over the fire. The story ends happily with all the daughters getting married and being able to support their father. Word of Saint Nicholas’ compassion quickly spread and he was anointed as the patron saint of children. Amazing how a good deed can carry on through the ages. 🎅 .

Merry Christmas Eve and Happy Holidays! May you have visions of whiskey drams in your head, and here’s to Santa putting a peated single malt in your stocking instead of coal. Special thanks to @jenncairn and @curi0usjenn for the awesome glencairn glass and her project. Hope you enjoy the Christmas tour from Olathe, KS!!
