A fast-moving wildfire in Southern California has grown to 465 acres and remains 0% contained, forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate as powerful Santa Ana winds fuel the flames.

The Norte Fire broke out around 11:30 a.m. Friday near Portico Del Norte in San Clemente, Orange County. Fueled by strong winds, high temperatures, and extremely dry conditions, the blaze rapidly spread toward neighboring San Juan Capistrano, threatening residential neighborhoods.

Authorities issued mandatory evacuation orders across multiple neighborhoods in both cities as firefighters worked to prevent the flames from spreading further. Several homes have already been damaged or destroyed, with officials confirming that at least six properties have been affected.

More than 500 firefighters have been deployed to battle the blaze, with ground crews and aircraft working to contain the fire and protect surrounding structures. One firefighter was hospitalized with mild heat exhaustion, while no civilian injuries were immediately reported.

The fire also disrupted local schools, prompting nine campuses in the Capistrano Unified School District to dismiss students early and cancel after-school activities.

Evacuation shelters have been established in San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano as officials urge residents to follow emergency orders and avoid affected areas.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and authorities warn that continued strong winds and dry conditions could complicate containment efforts.
