If it can go wrong, it will.

Off the back of the most successful season of my career was the lowest valley of my life. May 2023, I ran my lifetime best in the 800m & I experienced Bilateral Sacral Stress Fractures. It took 21 weeks for me to get back to running on the ground. November 2023, I take my first over ground running strides and slowly try to piece together some fitness. January 2024, I run 1:57 in a devastating indoor opener. I struggled to believe I was the same runner I was before my injury. I continued to wrestle with self-doubt all the way through the start of outdoor. Never truly believing that I was fully healthy/ready to race, holding on to the fear that I couldn’t race to my potential. April 2024, I have to have my appendix removed with less than 3 weeks remaining in the outdoor season.

Most people would have cut their losses. I am not most people.

Thanks to amazing medical support from ISU Athletic Training, Ames Spine & Sport, and Mary Greeley Medical and unwavering belief from @coach_sudbury ; I took the line 20 days post op to run my best race as a cyclone.

A 1:51 to win the slow heat of the Big 12 Championships.

All this to say, track isn’t a sport you can plan for. Every race is a gift, and everyday you spend able to compete should be cherished. I am not 100% sure what I am going to do as far as running in the future, but I am thankful for the experiences track has given me through the years.
