Three generations. More than 60 years of service. One enduring commitment to protecting our nation.

Air Interdiction Agent Chad Smith, assigned to the Uvalde Air Branch, is preparing to retire next month after more than 30 years of dedicated CBP service. His commitment to public service follows the example of his father, James R. Smith, a U.S. Border Patrol Academy Class 86 graduate who served at the Del Rio Border Patrol Station before continuing his career with the U.S. Marshals Service.

Today, that legacy continues through Chad’s son, Border Patrol Agent Brady Smith, a graduate of U.S. Border Patrol Academy Class 1301 assigned to the Brackettville Border Patrol Station.

In a full-circle moment, Chad and Brady recently worked together in the Del Rio Sector to track and apprehend five individuals who entered the United States illegally. Thank you to the Smith family for its extraordinary legacy of service.

We are the frontline.

CBP is leading federal efforts to combat illicit narcotics trafficking. In Fiscal Year 2026, CBP seized nearly 1 MILLION pounds of illegal narcotics.

CBP frontline employees are using nonintrusive inspection technology and intelligence-driven strategies to seize deadly drugs, targeting not just finished products but precursor chemicals, tools, and pill presses.

❌Don’t take to the sea.

Coast Guard Cutter Winslow Griesser’s crew repatriated 63 of 66 alien migrants to two Dominican Republic Navy vessels, Saturday, following the interdiction of an unlawful migration vessel voyage in Mona Passage waters.

Three of the interdicted aliens remain in federal custody facing further investigation and charges of illegal attempted reentry to the United States under 8 U.S.C 1326.

“I’m proud of my crew and the Coast Guard aircrews for stopping what could have been a treacherous journey for all onboard an overloaded migrant vessel Friday night,” said Lt. Alex Kearney, Coast Guard Cutter Winslow Griesser commanding officer. “They saved 66 people from a dangerously overloaded vessel attempting to transit across a vast ocean with little to no safety equipment and no regard to safety of human life at sea. These voyages are extremely dangerous, and anyone conducting illegal smuggling migrant ventures may be subject to prosecution and imprisonment.”

The Coast Guard, along with its Operation Vigilant Sentry and Operation Bahamas, Turks and Caicos partners, maintains a continual presence with air, land and sea assets in the Florida Straits, Windward Passage, Mona Passage and Caribbean Sea in support of OVS. This multiagency and multilayered approach is designed to protect the safety of life at sea while preventing unlawful maritime entry to the United States and its territories.
