Grim Tidings by B.K. Borison

YOU GUYS. You aren’t ready for this one!!

BK constantly sets a bar, and then releases a new book and raises the bar. But it’s a problem I don’t ever want to go away…

My favoritefavoritefavorite thing BK does is throw you in a setting where you are immediately transported into this world. The way I can picture this bar, Gabriel’s house, Darcy’s neighborhood, the flowershop, I can see it all and the imagery is just fantastic. I loved the setting and the way that this town made me feel in this book. I felt it in Good Spirits, but I feel like we took it up a notch, and it was important because this setting sets the scene that for the first time in a long time, a Grim Reaper, Darcy, has wanted to stay put somewhere, and that means something because once the reaper completes their assignment, they have to move on.

Darcy never knows where or why she’s been placed somewhere, but she usually needs to spend some time on her assignments to figure it out. While checking out the bar, and the hot bartender, she meets Gabriel. Their energy is magnetic and they immediately hit it off, that is until he finds out she’s a grim reaper and she finds out he’s the guardian angel. Basically, immortal enemies, and complete opposites. It isn’t until Gabriel gets to know Darcy that he learns she’s not like the other reapers, and he needs to question what he knows to be true.

I thought Darcy’s character was so endearing. I loved her so much. I thought their relationship was complicated, deep and romantic. I wanted them to work even though their fates weren’t aligned and I loved their journey.

This book does cover some hard topics around death and grief (I mean she is the grim reaper) so read with care. I didn’t cry while reading the book, but the acknowledgements took me out. I can’t wait for everyone to read this, I can’t wait to read it again and I can’t wait for book three!

travel day with timestamps ✈️🎧📖

Thanks to the tagged publishers for the #gifted books.

I filmed and edited most of this on my flight with the intention of posting it day of and then fell off because I was in New York City, and that’s showbiz baby!!!

so here’s my (late) travel vlog of going to nyc. The three books I read while on the flight were:

The biggest take aways are that:

1) I am most definitely a mood reader
2) I am blessed to have so many options to choose from!

How I got my Grim Tidings arc at BookCon💜!

It was a mega trade, in a few minutes of pure chaos but with the help of @booksandbedtime I got it! I should also say she got in line just for me and almost missed her panel to try and spin for me - she’s the realest 💜💜💜

I didn’t even think it would be possible to get the arc but when I saw a girl walking around with it on Saturday I knew it was the only book I’d want to try for. The arc drops and book giveaways at BookCon were insane, so I’m happy with how it all worked out!

I didn’t exchange handles with the girl I switched with but I hope she’s just as happy as I am lol.

I started this on the plane and it’s off to a good start! If you’re interested in reading it, I saw this morning it’ll be up on netgalley on May 8th!

📚BOOKCON!!!📚

It’s taken me days to get a post ready and words together about @bookcon! Let me just say I had a GREAT time! 🎉

I’ve seen the discourse and from an event planner standpoint, the event failed on a multitude of levels. However, my goal for this event was to hang out with book besties, meet some authors and take it all in. And I was able to do all that and more! 🎉

🎤 Night One was all about Taylor Swift. I saw Cornelia Street for the first time, found a speakeasy and ate at a great place my favorite celebrity has frequent.
📚 Publisher events on Friday were honestly my favorite part. I got to have so many lovely conversations with authors and met other Bookstagrammers and every single moment was fun and uplifting.
🐉 BookCon Day 1 was a little overwhelming but I met @ellekishauthor and bought lots of goodies!
📝 BookCon Day 2 I focused on panels and it was so much more fun doing that.
🗺️ There was some exploring between bookstores and restaurants!
🎁 And finally all my goodies I came home with!

BookCon day ✌🏾

Highlight of this day was winning the Grim Tidings arc. I waited 1.5 hrs in line, formed an alliance for trade and it wasn’t until @booksandbedtime won a different arc that I was able to do a 3 way swap 😂 I’ll post something about this later because it was quite hilarious.

I got to check out a hockey romance panel moderated by Bal Khabra with authors like Rachel Ried, Stephanie Archer and Ngozi Ukazu.

My second panel of the day was about the language of love with Jasmine Guillory, Tia Williams and Casey Mcquiston!

My last panel of the day was about book to movie adaptations where we got to hear from Robinne Lee, Andy Weir and a few other authors!

I finally got to meet Analeigh Sbrana, and she was so sweet!

The rest of the night was spent eating delicious Indian food with friends, and playing a fourth wing game - the perfect end to BookCon weekend 💕

Zero expectations, zero plans, and 100% vibes. ✨
I had the absolute best time at @bookcon this past weekend! Going in with a completely open schedule turned out to be the best decision—everything fell into place.

The highlights of my first-ever book con:
👯‍♀️ The People: Getting to see @bookedforthevibes and @travelinglovereads and finally meeting @booksandbedtime, @emilyisoverbooked, @exercise_read_repeat, and @cbutzread IRL! Hanging with y’all was the ultimate highlight!
🪎The Loot: Stumbling into the Indie Galley and scoring signatures/goodies from @gretchenwritesbooks and @alexispattonauthor (thanks @bookedwiththeemilys!) + a signed copy of Face Off by @authorchelseacurto and an In Stormy Weather ARC!
🥂 The Events: Yapping about all things books at the @sourcebooks VIP event and meeting even more new bookish friends. 💕
🥹 The Full-Circle Moment: Meeting @visualizethepages IRL! She’s been so supportive since my first month on Bookstagram, and her gift was the sweetest surprise.
🎙️ The Spotlight: Catching the Spotlight for @kuangrf! It was so moving I definitely shed a few tears—she is such an incredible speaker.
🎡 The Pareto Optimal Trade: Spinning the @harpercollins ARC wheel and witnessing @travelinglovereads trade Tempest for Grim Tidings. As an economist, I’m calling that a win-win trade! 📈

My first convention was WILD, but being surrounded by such amazing people made every second worth it. 📖✨
