The last one at the wedding by Jason Rekulak

The guests are arriving, and the celebrations are starting. But there’s something strange about this wedding.

Frank Szatowski hasn’t seen his daughter Maggie in years, and it breaks his heart every day. So when she calls him out of the blue, to tell him that she’s getting married and he’s invited, Frank is overjoyed.

Maggie is marrying into one of the richest families in the country, and Frank finds himself overwhelmed by the social circle she now moves in. He’ll do anything to reconnect, though, and arrives at their New Hampshire estate ready to bond however he can with Maggie’s in-laws.

But as the wedding weekend gets underway, it becomes clear to Frank that although they have spared no expense, there’s something strange about Maggie’s fiancé. And maybe Frank shouldn’t be celebrating just yet.

Ever look into a dark doorway at 2 AM from bed and immediately regret every decision that led you to that exact spot? 💀

Because SAME, besties.

I teamed up with my gorgeous book bestie Christina (@cchasingtales ) to bring you a list of deeply unsettling horror books that will make you leave every light on in the house. 👀

Honestly, Christina’s recommendations always give top-tier atmospheric eerie vibes, and her picks are so dark they’ll speak straight to your midnight soul. 🖤

We’re not just talking monster-in-the-closet horror here.

We’re talking about that slow, prickling feeling on the back of your neck when you’re SURE someone is standing right behind you in the dark. 👁️

These reads are absolute stunners that prey on pure tension and low-light terror, so make sure to show Christina some love and hit that follow button for more killer recs! ✨

📚 Which book on this list is calling your name, or do you already have a go-to read that forces you to keep the hallway light on? Enable us back!✨

Appreciation post!

It takes a few to tango. Outside of my very patient family, there are a few people who deserve a shout-out — and probably even more — for their contribution to The Bully.

Of course, @perengevold, my editor, deserves a round of applause. As do @greenfroze and @house_henning for their thorough read-throughs, proofreading, and line edits. They are both members of the comma police, and they caught me probably more times than they should have had to.

A huge shout-out to @giopetersauthor for line-editing and proofreading the English version, and to my daughter @idahermiine for helping out with illustrations and translation.

Then there are also a few amazing test readers, like @skrekkbibliotekaren , @tinselandbooks, and @cchasingtales. Thank you guys for the incredible support and some thoughts that actually changed the final version quite a lot!

The Bully would not be what it is today without all of you.

Thank you. ❤️

The Bully releases on November 20.

🤢 FRIDAY FLATLAY, but make it Saturday:WTF Covers

You know, sometimes you just have to pause, look at your bookshelf, and take stock of how many weird, kooky, and obscenely inappropriate book covers you’ve accumulated over the years 💀👀

I mean... some of these look like fever dreams, and I love that for us! 🤣

So I broke down the most UNHINGED covers on my shelves into three easy levels: Low WTF, Med WTF, and full-on WTF AF (horror edition, obviously) 🖤✨ ESPECIALLY as recently our fave horror authors have had their books banned on the Zon.

Swipe through to see the progression from "okay, that's a bit strange" to "who approved this, and why do I own three copies?" 🙈💀

I'm officially tagging a few of my favorite booksta besties to show off their weirdest art, but if you’re reading this, CONSIDER YOURSELF TAGGED!

No shame in the crazy cover game around here 👀✨

✨Tell me friends, what is the absolute most WTF book cover sitting on your shelves right now? Drop the titles below so we can judge together!✨

✨📚 ✒️Poetry Stack ✒️📚✨

Time for the Poetry Stack Challenge, one of my favourites! Thank you, @mylifein.books , my lovely, for tagging me and reminding me how much fun it is.

I wouldn’t say I know much about poetry, or even claim to know how to write it, but I had such a great time stacking books to come up with something vaguely resembling a poem that I was excited to try again.

Good or bad, here it is:

I Am Legend!
Pretty Evil,
Odd Girl Out,
Bad Fruit, Black Sheep,
Misery Fleshed out,
Unsafe,
Handling the undead,
Let(ting) the old dreams die…

🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔😁😁😁😁😁

Tagging some people to join in the fun - no pressure!

✨📚 👶Books release the year I was born - 1974 ✨📚👶

I was born in 1974, less than a month before the Portuguese Revolution on the 25th of April, which marked the transition from a 48-year dictatorship to a democracy and the end of the colonial war in Africa. So technically, I’m a baby of the Carnation Revolution — a non-violent military coup that gave freedom back to the people.

A child of the 70s, growing up through the 80s and 90s… a very different world. So many memories, so much nostalgia. I have books, movies, shows and music from 1974 to share with you all. 😊😊

Thank you so much @book.n.films for the tag!

Saw this trend going around and thought it looked fun, so I gave it a go.

These are characters I love and relate to in different ways — mostly weird, nerdy, quirky introverts.

🖤Wednesday Addams (The Addams Family)
💜Dante Hicks (Clerks)
🖤Needy Lesnicki (Jennifer's Body)
💜Kaylee Frye (Firefly)
🖤Michelle Flaherty (American Pie)
💜Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory)
🖤Baby (Dirty Dancing)

Tempted to try this? I’d love to see your versions!

#currentlyreading Blonde a novel by Joyce Carol Oates

Joyce Carol Oates reimagines the inner, poetic, and spiritual life of Norma Jeane Baker. The child, the woman, the celebrity, and idolized blonde the world came to know as Marilyn Monroe. Norma Jeane tells her own story of an emblematic American artist, intensely conflicted and driven, who had lost her way. A portrait of Hollywood’s myth and an extraordinary woman’s heartbreaking reality.
