Chapter book donations for 3rd & 4th graders 📚✨

Last week, we dropped off a box of books to a Spanish immersion classroom at a local Title I school so they can start dropping everything to read!! Shoutout to Ms Imperatori for giving us free rein to choose the books. Of course, we had to pick some of our favorites & even donated a few copies in both English & Spanish.

Just after we left, students were already dropping everything to read! Thanks to your continued support—engaging on our posts, sharing what we’re doing, & showing us love—we’re able to make donations like this one to classrooms across rural North Carolina that are looking to improve their literacy scores & create a lifelong love of reading!! 📖💖

@librofm is having an Indie Bookshop Appreciation Sale now until 10/12!! We slogged through all the sale pages (nearly 2000 selections) to find the audiobooks we think you’ll enjoy—horror, classics, literary fiction, romance, nonfiction, and children’s.

As always, every purchase through our link supports us. No membership required, BUT members do take an additional 30% off sale. That means many of these audiobooks are $3 or less!!!

We’ll be parked at @___perfectlovers___ in Durham tomorrow from 9am-1pm, rain or shine. We’ll have the tent set up & would love to chat books, potential collaborations, & upcoming events.

Set Habibti Bookshop as your audiobook seller & start shopping! Let us know in the comments what you grab ✨

Our October Read with us Rocky Mount book club pick — Our Cut of Salt by @deenahlm (@tornightfire) 📚✨

In this lyrical debut, three generations of Palestinian women must put the haunting of their ancestral home to rest, before the secrets of the past drown them all. Our Cut of Salt is a powerful and intimate look at what it means to make a home, to lose it, and to return, only to find it irrevocably changed.

Whether this is your first book club or you’ve joined us before, we encourage you to pick up a copy this month & meet us at the Rocky Mount Train Station (101 Coastline St, Rocky Mount) 2nd Floor on Thursday, October 29th at 6pm as we discuss Our Cut of Salt. We hope to see you there!!

If you’re looking to grab a copy of this month’s pick, @habibtibookshop has copies that will be available at Read with us Rocky Mount events & wherever the truck parks while supplies last. Book club members get 10% off the monthly book club pick. You can also grab the audiobook from libro.fm and the ebook from bookshop.org & still support Habibti.

Family currently reading 📖✨

Today before family quiet reading, I asked everyone what book(s) they brought to the couch. We dedicate time multiple times a week to at least 30 mins of silent reading together. Cultivating a love of reading while setting examples by reading ourselves has been one of the best things we could instill in our kids. Now we have three kids who ask us to read with them, who ask for trips to the library and the bookstore, who try to fill their book charts first before anyone else in the family and who request books for gifts.

We also choose to read a chapter book aloud with our kids as a family. I’m currently reading No Place on Earth by @andreabeatrizarango & it’s a beautiful thing to see your kids ask about Gustavo & Kordell, if bison are real, if dreamscapes are possible. Kyle is reading Fatal Glitch: Camp Zero by @erinentrada & @schrefer where the kids are locked in & desperately pleading for just one more chapter. Reading aloud to kids, even when they themselves can read, is more about connection and sharing something so beautiful as a story together, like you’re in on a secret, a club together.

We want to know what you’re reading personally & what you’re reading with your kid(s), any recommendations on what we should read next? ⬇️
