Some photos from the ongoing PCS strike action at the British Library from October-December. I’m so proud to be on the picket line with these folks. It’s been a long slog and demoralising at times but we’ve not finished fighting for fair pay yet! #pcsunion @britishlibrarypcs

This one is for my friend, the seafaring bibliophile @ceebarnacles 🌊 It's not always easy to keep the passion alive for working in a large institution - there are periods of smooth sailing and others of stormy tumult. Wishing you fair seas and following winds, dear friend :)

A sweet little mid-19th c Valentine card from an album at SLV, which I had out for a bespoke collection viewing today. It was pasted into an album by Lizzie Severne. PCLTBOX SEV - all digitised, so dive in.

Christian Algar @ceebarnacles gave a superlative Foxcroft Lecture as part of the Beyond the Book symposium and exhibition launch, on Friday evening @library_vic , watched over sternly by Robert Burton! It was exhilarating to hear his erudition and passion combining in advocacy for the embrace of a broach church of voices and views within the world of rare books, especially at collecting institutions, and his practical suggestions about how such institutions can make their collections truly more accessible to all communities. The focus was the Thomason Tracts and the Emmerson Collection, but the message is much broader that than.

@britishlibrary you are incredibly fortunate to have Christian as a leader of community engagement with rare books - he is a force for good 👏

The recording of this lecture will be made available soon through SLV's website and YouTube channel.

Amazing afternoon @britishlibrary studying embroidered bindings related to those in the Emmerson Collection @library_vic 😍 Thank you Philippa Marks and Christian Algar 🖤 And where else to have a glass after seeing Stuart bindings than the Charles I pub?

Classic Tory playbook - don’t like that the little people are not staying in their lane & tugging at their forelocks…..let’s bring in anti strike legislation rather than sort out the problems caused by 12+ years of a Tory government. #strikersarefightingforeveryone #nevertrustatory #togetherwearestronger

Exquisitely weird stipple engraving by Giulio Campagnola this evening, a unique impression c. 1510/15 of a toddler harassing some cats 👶🐱 Which velvety disgruntled feline are you?

Campagnola invented the stipple technique, wherein tiny dots are used to create tone and texture, a huge change from the traditional linear mode of engraving. It revolutionised the possibilities of printmaking, and in this tiny print (85 x 70mm), you can see why. Thanks to @titianchips for having this box out so I could browse it too!
