What an amazing adventure with @backroadstravel and my fellow @foratravel advisors on the Taste of the Camino trip!

I finally understand what keeps BackRoads guests going back for more! Every single day followed an effortless rhythm. You can spend the morning tackling a challenging hike, followed by an incredible picnic lunch right on a local family farm. By the afternoon, you can be lounging by the pool at a gorgeous five-star hotel.

The absolute best part of the entire experience? You don't have to plan any of it. Backroads completely delivers on the magic of combining active travel with luxury. World-class properties in stunning locales, expert-vetted routes, and incredible guides, every detail is entirely taken care of so you can just ENJOY 🌟

My favorite Backroads-isms:

💖 JOMO - so, this is the Joy Of Missing Out as opposed to the fear of missing out. What this means in real terms is that BackRoads encourages guests to tailor their experience according to how they're feeling on any given day, whether they want to do every single thing possible that day or maybe just the morning activities and then a nap by the pool in the afternoon - no guilt or feeling like you've missed out on anything.

😋 SnackRoads - BackRoads make sure you are never hungry! Every morning there is a station set up for you to pack your snacks for the day's activities but also there are comfort stations available throughout the day for you to top up your water and add more snacks to your pack as needed. Also, the picnics that they provided for a couple of our lunches were absolutely wonderful!

⏭️ Boosts - at different stages throughout the day it is possible to do a "boost". This can mean skipping one of the hikes so you have more time to explore a town you might be passing through or missing out a hike that might not be your jam (for me this was boosting past a steep downhill section that I knew would be troublesome for my knees!).

BackRoads offers trips all over the world. If you are interested in talking about a BackRoads trip of your own, send me a message or email heather@calliopetravel.com

🥾 A Taste of the Camino with Backroads
Just returned from a fantastic week with Backroads, exploring portions of the Camino de Santiago, a centuries-old pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. @backroadstravel @foracommunity
I can’t recommend Backroads enough for an adventure-style trip where all the details are taken care of so you can relax and enjoy!
A few things that make Backroads special:
⛰️ The overall experience: Beyond incredible outdoor activities, think amazing hotels, picnic lunches in unique locations and opportunities to experience local food, wine, music and culture.
🌎 Something for everyone: Trips around the world for solo travelers, couples and families, with options for hiking, walking, biking or a combination of activities at different ability levels.
🗺️ The daily plan: Each morning starts with a colorful, hand-drawn blackboard outlining the day’s routes, activities and options.
🙌 Flexibility: Want a shorter hike? They offer a “boost” back to the hotel!
☀️ No FOMO, just JOMO: The Joy of Missing Out. Sometimes the best plan is heading back to enjoy the hotel or spend the afternoon your own way.
🥜 Snackroads: Every morning, pack your own snacks from a spread of fruit, granola bars, nuts, M&Ms and drinks. Midway through hikes, the support team sets up another station with refreshing drinks and treats!
🧳 Luggage made easy: Your bags are delivered straight to your next hotel room. No hauling suitcases from stop to stop!
🤝 Group connection: Sharing hikes, meals and new experiences creates a bond with the people you travel with.
🌟 Amazing guides: Knowledgeable, accommodating and fun, with great insight into the places we explore.
✈️ Let’s plan your trip! I’d love to help you find the right Backroads adventure. I can also plan pre- or post-trip days, including hotels and experiences, to help you make the most of the region.

What an amazing week experiencing @backroadstravel “taste of the camino” with @foratravel 🥰
I 100% get why my clients love this company so much!
Some favorite things:
🍪 Snackroads is for real. peanut m&ms and gummy 🍳 for the win. Oh and paprika pringles 🤣
👟 Exercise doesn’t feel like exercise. When the day’s hike ends at a view or a café, you forget you just covered miles.
⏰ Every pace has a place. Routes come in different lengths and levels, so everyone in the group gets the day they want. 💛The leaders are the secret sauce. They handle logistics, tell the local stories and look after everyone, so you can just enjoy it.
🥗Meals are built around local ingredients and regional dishes.
🍷Wine tasting is better with context. Walking the vineyards changes how you taste the local wines.
🎻Music shows up when you don’t expect it. A local performance turned out to be a highlight.
✨The group becomes the trip. You arrive with strangers and leave with new friends.
🙌🏼Seamless is an art. The luggage, lodging, route notes and support vehicle all just work. Backroads guides are AMAZING!!!

There are trips almost anywhere and for anyone. Let me help you book the perfect one for you! 🗺️

When I started this business a few years ago, I knew I was stepping into something new, but I don’t think I realized just how much joy it would bring into my life.

I’ve built a business I’m incredibly proud of, traveled to some pretty amazing places, and somehow, along the way, I’ve also collected this wonderful group of women from all over the world.

Some are fellow travel advisors, some are hotel and industry partners, and some started as professional connections and very quickly became real friends. The kind you genuinely look forward to seeing when you realize you’ll be in the same city, at the same event, or sometimes on the other side of the world.

Building a new business at this stage of my life has been an adventure in itself. I expected the work, the travel, the learning, and hopefully the success. I didn’t expect the friendships.

Turns out, that may be one of the very best parts. ❤️

Things I’m still thinking about from NYC…

Before the trip, I wrote in my newsletter that no matter how many times I go to New York, I still arrive wanting to do too much! There is always another reservation to make, another neighborhood to cross town for, and another “must-do” someone insists you cannot miss.

This time, I finally got to a few things that had been bumped from the list more than once:

• Seeing the Morgan Library in person
• Spending an afternoon at the Tenement Museum
• Trying as many gluten-free pizza spots as we could fit in
• Drinking coffee in my monogrammed robe at the newly reopened Waldorf Astoria
• Catching up with friends from so many different chapters of my life

And because it’s New York, I left with more saved for next time.

If New York has been calling your name lately, I'd love to help you decide what makes it on your list. 🍎

A little appreciation post for some very special women in the YLA community. 🥰

All of these incredible women have joined me on 4+ YLA adventures around the world.

Iceland. Peru. Morocco. Bali. Norway. Brazil. Canada. Guatemala. The list goes on…🤩

Each of them have helped shape the YLA community into what it is today. 🥹

When I first started leading group trips, I never imagined the connections, friendships, and sense of community that would grow from them. ☺️

What means the most to me isn’t that these women keep signing up for trips.

It’s that they continue choosing adventure.
They continue saying yes to growth.
They continue investing in experiences, connection, and themselves.

Watching their confidence grow, the friendships deepen, and their worlds expand and transform over the last few years has been one of the greatest gifts of this journey.

So to every woman featured in this post: THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. 🙏

Thank you for your trust.
Thank you for your support.
Thank you for saying yes again and again and again.

And thank you for helping make YLA what it is today.

Swipe through to meet some of our most loyal YLA alumni and hear what they have to say about their experiences. 🌎✨

And if you’ve ever traveled with YLA on more than one trip, tell me below: Which trip was your favorite?👇

A few glimpses of our Roman holiday 🇮🇹 What a gift this trip was! As our time together as a little family dwindles and our oldest gets ready to head off to Brazil next year, we loved this trip to enjoy the journey, and stop for ALL the treats!😆

Some of our favorite things:
Golf cart tour of Rome
Pasta making class
Family friendly tours of the Vatican & Colosseum
Food tour around Rome
Hiking the Path of the Gods on the Amalfi Coast
Boat adventure & snorkeling around Capri
Paper making tour in Amalfi
Eating pizza, pasta & gelato EVERYWHERE!!

We can’t wait to go back and explore more of this beautiful country! Have you been? Tell us your favorite parts! Or where you hope to go?

Thank you @celebrateandexplore for helping us plan this magical memorable trip! We will be forever grateful!💕

How did you start 2026?

Well, myself and 16 other ladies climbed a gomo (mountain for those not familiar with Shona) watched some sparks fly across the way (that would be #mountfuego in #guatemala) while a storm raged around us (not a metaphor). All the while keeping a sunny disposition even with the odd period drama.

Gotta love a girls trip to help reset your world and bring what truely matters into perspective.

Thank you lovely lava ladies and @christinamcevoy and @your.limitless.adventures for making it all happen.

This Guatemala trip was extra SPECIAL for so many reasons. 🥰

From Day 1, these women showed up with open hearts—holding space for one another with kindness and enthusiasm.

The connections were formed quickly and deeply, in a way that only happens when you feel comfortable enough to be your true self.

Here are a few of my favorite highlights and moments from Guatemala…

We climbed a volcano—and watched another erupt right in front of our eyes, a moment so surreal it didn’t feel real. The hike was grueling (6K feet in approx 6 miles 😅) and the weather was brutal at times, but the women proved that, “we can do hard things”. 💪🏼

One morning we paddleboarded on the beautiful Lake Atitlán at sunrise, surrounded in stillness and peace. ☺️

We met with a Mayan shaman and each received a blessing—grounding, personal, and unforgettable. ✨

We listened as the jungle came alive around us, watching the sun come up while seated atop a temple at Tikal—one of those moments that stays with you forever.

Just as meaningful were the mindfulness moments we shared together—sitting together in a circle, connecting deeper with one another and ourselves. 🧘🏼‍♀️

What also made this trip even more meaningful was having the twin of my sweet friend Elise @3kidstravel with us. 🥹 Elise passed away about a year ago, and her presence—through her sister @kristinatoddlerapproved —felt like a quiet thread of love and remembrance woven into the entire journey.

There was also a powerful full-circle moment for me.

Exactly 7 years ago, I was in Guatemala with my family, just beginning our 2.5 year journey of full-time travel. Back then, I never could’ve imagined that one day I’d be leading women here—guiding experiences like this, watching lives expand in real time.

To the women who said YES to Guatemala:

Thank you for your courage.
Your openness.
Your compassion for one another.
And for showing up fully—and proving to yourselves that you are truly LIMITLESS. 💫

This trip will live in my heart for a long time. ❤️

Big shout-out to Gina @driftwoodsphotography for her amazing talent in capturing all of these special moments in Guatemala. We are so grateful! 🙏

Because I’m a magical criatura and can not help myself, I get on airplanes and find myself in beautiful places. This last time I was in Guatemala to climb a mountain and see about a volcano. I go because my heart requires the adventure so it can keep expanding. But really I go so my heart can be held and loved by the soul sisters I get the privilege of traveling with.

“ having a lover and friends who look at you as a true living breathing entity, one that is human but made of very fine and moist and magical things as well… a lover and friends who support the criatura in you… these are the people you are looking for. They will be the friends of your soul for life.” ~Clarissa Pinkola Estes
