POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

INTRODUCING SOLO | SOLO offers in-depth, curated presentations of individual artists, both local and international, providing insight into the scope and evolution of their practice. Under the curation of Céline Seror (@celine_seror), the section is shaped by the concept of ‘Becoming Otherwise: Matter, Spirit, World’ in 2027.

Moving across material, spiritual, and speculative dimensions, this section of solo presentations seeks artists whose work explores the shifting conditions through which bodies, forms, and ways of being continuously emerge, transform, and become otherwise. Inspired by philosophies and cosmologies that understand the world as a web of visible and invisible relations, ‘Becoming Otherwise: Matter, Spirit, World’ considers creation as a space of continuous mutation, where spiritual and embodied experience converge with material transformation.

Monday and some time away from the fair. Homey shots taken by the wonderful @simonastone_ of life behind the fair, our Hout Street office (found by @_sophielalonde back in the day) and all these memories. @investeccapetownartfair returns 19-21 Feb 2027.

It’s been over a month since @investeccapetownartfair with a whole lot of intense life happening in between. I’m still spinning. What a fair it was! I can’t quite believe we pulled it off. Our most ambitious edition yet, although we say this every year, including an expanded footprint, richer programming, and a refreshed craft and design section, Capsule (which I didn’t even tell anyone that I was behind), plus bringing on board incredible new sponsors and media partners. Heart and soul and blood, sweat and tears. I’m super proud to have played a part in the success of this phenomenal edition, which is, at the end of the day, a success for the art community as a whole. I’m also particularly proud of record attendance and ticket sales. As always, I’m just grateful and happy to be a part of the Fiera Milano team and to have a dream client. Thank you to every single person who helped make it happen. Thank you to everyone who showed up. Most importantly, on a more personal note, thank you to my family, friends and Lazzo for all the love and support, in both work and life, especially during the less sexy moments. You know who you are. Here are my hard-to-choose highlights photographed by @antheapokroyphotography and @antonxscholtz. Until the next one.

Preparing with an artist for a solo-exhibition and/or presenting their work at an art fair starts always with studio visits. Listening to the thoughts and ideas, observing the process of making, understanding the use of materials.... it's all part of the preparation. Mellaney Roberts presented a beautiful solo with her ceramics at the Investec CapeTown Art Fair 2026.

'Waer Bloed Nie Loop Nie'.... "the work is connected with the community Bobbeiaanskloof where I grew up. So the RDC Art Collection Award I received for my work, is not just for me, but it's also about taking it back to my community, showing them the appreciation and the hard work that went into excavating their memories, identity, and what land means to us."

While working with Mellaney the idea of the umbilical cord, which is the lifeline between a developing child and its female parent, was already very strongely present. Many African cultures consider the umbilical cord as an essential part of birth rituals. The cord is drying up or falling off connotes the full coming into being of a new person.

At that moment the baby is no longer a part of its mother's womb, but is now a part of the family and community into which it is born. The umbilical cord is reflective of continuity because the baby is usually reflective in some way, shape, or form as a continuation of its ancestors, elders, and family group.

Among the works by Tyna Adebowale that we are presenting at Investec Cape Town, there is “‘Ofofo’ (#motherwomb), (2021-2023).

Ofofo’ is a term rooted in Yoruba culture, meaning “gossips”. The decision, or lack thereof, to become a mother in any form holds significant importance within Nigerian and other African cultures. It reflects how the female body is often reduced to mere vessels for reproduction. In these societies, being a mother is frequently seen as a requirement to validate one’s existence as a woman. In ‘ofofo’, the Motherwomb project aims to shed light on this perspective, not only within Nigerian culture but also from a global standpoint, examining the role of women’s womb in society.

Music - Temmie Ovwasa
Researcher Edo State - Agbozuadu Omoarelogie.
Researcher Northern Nigeria - Ummi Bukar

The 2026 edition of @investeccapetownartfair continues today!

Find 'Temporary Shelters' by Jeanne Hoffman at Booth S1 in the Solo Section, curated by Céline Seror.

View the portfolio via the link in our bio.
______________________

[T]here are hints of domestic architecture in the 'Temporary Shelters' paintings. An arched contour suggests a recess. An accumulation of colours fills a crowded room. An agreement of straight lines suggests furniture. Yet these motifs remain partial. They are embedded within a field of painterly events, a marshalled discord of colour, pattern and energetic mark-making that is quintessentially Hoffman-esque. For the viewer, the task is not to decode the discrete events, but to find equilibrium within the overall agitation.

Investec Cape Town Art Fair | 19–22 February 2026

Very proud to have been selected for SOLO 2026 – Echoes of Humanity Curated by Céline Seror.

Livingstone Gallery (booth S5) presents Raquel Maulwurf's latest charcoal drawings and her new installation 'The Carbon Cross'.
For this presentation a soundscape was composed by Terra Ray 'Humming from the Void ' offering visitors an innovative and immersive way to experience the installation.

At a time when global instability, fragmentation, and noise dominate public life, listening emerges as a radical and necessary act.
For its 2026 edition, the Investec
Cape Town Art Fair places LISTEN at the heart of its curatorial vision. Within this framework, SOLO 2026: Echoes of Humanity, curated by Céline Seror, presents a powerful and intimate exploration of listening as a relational, ethical, and transformative practice.

This presentation was made possible with the support of the Mondriaan Fund.

Super excited to be part of the curated SOLO section of @investeccapetownartfair, curated by @celine_seror titled 𝘌𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘏𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺.

This is the first time my work is travelling outside of Europe with @namusogallery, which makes it extra special. Showing work in a non-Western context opens them to new perspectives beyond the cultural frameworks in which they have previously been seen. In the end, no matter geography, the work speaks to a shared human ground.

Today is the vernissage of Investec Cape Town, where we are participating with a solo presentation by Tyba Adebowale. Find us at Booth S7 in the Solo Section, which has been curated by Céline Seror.

The presented work by Adebowale is part of the fourteenth chapter in her #Motherwomb series, a multifaceted and ongoing artistic project which explores motherhood as something larger than biology and deeply intergenerational.

The #motherwombseries is Adebowale’s visual ode to the women who raised her–her five mothers. In the Uneme community in Nigeria, where she grew up, it is common for a child to be raised not only by their biological mother, but also by several maternal figures. It was only when the artist began travelling that she realized this natural, communal way of parenting was rarely the norm. In this series, Adebowale and the community for her spiritural widsom and lifelong work as a healer, mediator, midwife, and strong matriarch until her passing in 2015.

Tyna Adebowale (1982, Nigeria) lives and works in Amsterdam. Recent exhibitions include Here: Pride and Belonging in African Art, Smithsonian Museum of African Art, Washington DC, USA. Good Mom/Bad Mom, Centraal Museum, Utrecht (2025); Vrouwen van Amsterdam: een ode, Amsterdam Museum (2025); Africa Supernova (The contemporary African painting collection of Carla and Pieter Schulting), Kunsthal KAdE; Refresh Amsterdam 2020-2021 (Amsterdam Museum); The Future is Female, CODA Museum, Appeldorn (2020); and What if Women Rule The World?, Garage Rotterdam (2019).
