Where do I start !!??? The book setting is in Salem,MA and the events occur the week of Halloween. Honestly it really doesn’t get any better than that. This is most definitely a book that captures the atmosphere of the spooky season vibe. I absolutely loved it.

This book follows Edward Crane, he is a private detective that doesn’t get a lot of business. Until one day on Halloween he unfortunately loses his life. A weird twist of fate he is allowed to come back every Halloween for a week to investigate the strange and unusual cases in Salem. He works with Sam his partner together they team up to tackle these cases. This recent case they’re working on something very sinister and malevolent.

I love how Ed gave me a strong Ichabod Crane feel to him. The plots in this book were plotting! There were quite a few plots I didn’t see coming at all. I had to break out my clue board game to see what I missed. I was so taken aback by the story and the book I there my kindle across my carpeted floor! Definitely an author I’ll be on the lookout for.

Thank you Momma Leslie for the book recommendation! I loved it! @cemetarydancer

QOTD: Have you read any books that have a setting in Salem,MA?

I read KIN by author Kealan Patrick Burke.

Four friends from the midwest burbs decide to backpack in what they thought would be a rural paradise adventure. The adventure ends with Claire being the lone survivor of a hell saved for the nightmares that one can never imagine, less forget.

Danny is Claire’s love. He does not make it out. When word reached his brother, a Vet whose mind cannot leave Iraq, his ptsd has a target.

A waitress who can’t undo her past, a young man slow in thought but solid in goal, a conflicted sister… and a family clan from a place where banjos play, God is skewed, and all is justified.

Welcome to the Deep South town of Elkwood. Welcome to KIN.

I read this with initial trepidation, for book club. It took some pre-convincing to get me to take it on. From the first pages though, I was hypnotized. Transported. To a place of horrors not read before, places my mind struggled to wrap it self around, grief, anger, escalating despair. Yet all I wanted to do was stay wrapped in the journey.

For me, Stephen King elevates atmosphere to the sublime. Kealan Patrick Burke pens terror like it is poetry. His writing led my 5 senses on a literary assault with perfection. Add the anxiety, dread, sadness and suspense…well, I could not have imagined any better way to spend my last hour before sleep each night reading this novel.

I want so much to just jump into the prequel Cottonmouth. I want to read it in its entirety tomorrow. I think I will wait though…digest, if you will. And look forward to being destroyed again next month.

Definitely recommend.
