April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. I am honored to team up again with the Barbara Sinatra’s Children’s Center @CenterSinatra to bring attention to the staggering need for child abuse awareness and prevention. Not just this month, but all year round. To spotlight our collective responsibility to bring awareness to the importance of child abuse prevention and early intervention, we lit the tower lights of the Empire State Building blue!

One in 4 girls and one in 13 boys in the U.S. experience such abuse each year. Education is the first step toward preventing child abuse. Please do all that you can to recognize the signs and learn more about how your role matters in the fight to end child abuse. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and I don’t think the topic has ever hit harder for me than since becoming a Foster mom. (I am thankful that’s not been M’s story but I hear heartbreaking accounts of friends kiddo’s in the foster community). The reality is that this is not just a month, it’s a movement and YOU also have a super important role to play!

I love partnering with @CenterSinatra because they have some of the best and most accessible resources out there to help educate you and your kids on child abuse prevention. They also do incredible work with research, education, and treatment. My girls have benefited from their age-appropriate educational videos and I hope you will take a minute to check out all of the resources available on the Center’s site to help us eradicate child abuse! Help raise awareness for child abuse prevention with me and @centersinatra!

April is recognized as Child Abuse Prevention Month in many countries, including the United States. Bringing awareness to this important issue is crucial in preventing and reducing instances of child abuse.

Here are some ways you can help raise awareness:

Share information on social media: Use your social media platforms to share statistics, facts, and resources related to child abuse prevention. Encourage your followers to join you in supporting the cause. Visit fightchildabuse.org for free resources.

Wear blue: Blue is the official color of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Wear blue clothing or accessories throughout the month to show your support.

Volunteer: Look for local organizations that support child abuse prevention and volunteer your time. This could include participating in events, fundraising, or simply sharing information with others. Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center provides low cost and free mental health services for children and families, and have served over 25K people since its founding in 1986. Visit @centersinatra to learn ways you can help.

Educate yourself: Learn more about the signs of child abuse and how to report it. Share this information with your friends, family, and colleagues. Check out fightchildabuse.org for free information.

Advocate for policy change: Write to your local representatives or advocate for policy change that supports child abuse prevention. This could include increased funding for prevention programs or tougher penalties for perpetrators of abuse.
