Over 100 cars bought off the street in six months.

In a town of 15,000 people.

Nima Behboodi runs the Subaru and Chevrolet store in The Dalles, Oregon, and he is averaging about 20 a month.

We spent a couple days out there with him and his team.

Conner Windust, our CEO, sat down with him on camera.

The rest of the time we sat next to Rachael, their buyer, working her list, making calls, and coaching her on every step of the pipeline.

Full interview coming.

The whole thing came down to one word.

Control.

His words:

"When so many things that are out of your control get thrown at you, the only thing you can focus on is what you can control. And the one thing in this entire building that I can control is the used cars."

He did not ask for the chip shortage.

He did not ask for the EV head fake.

He did not ask for new car production to get cut two years running.

Dealers got handed a market they had no vote in.

The used car department is the one part of the building that still answers to them.

But most of used car acquisition is not in your control either.

The auction runs what runs, and half of what is left is there for a reason.

ICO gets you whoever clicks.

The service drive gets you whoever shows up.

Outbound private party is the only channel where you pick the car and you pick the price.

What Rachael said after the two days:

"That level of dedication is extraordinary. And the fact that the CEO himself showed up at my dealership and worked alongside his team to solve my problem says everything about the kind of company VETTX is."

Huge thank you to Nima, Rachael, and the whole Tonkin of the Gorge team.

We learned a ton from you about how to run a store.

Cheers to the next 100+ cars bought off the street 🔥

You already spend $300 a car at the auction before you ever win one.

The dealers getting ahead didn't cut that cost, they moved it.

Same money, buying inventory instead of fees.

95 out of 100 "instant cash offer" leads never wanted to sell.

They wanted a valuation.

Intent to sell beats volume of leads every time.

The gap between buying 5 and 25 cars a month isn't skill.

It's volume.

Facebook Marketplace averages a 5% close rate, so to move 25 cars, you need 500+ conversations.

No strategy shortcut.

Just the math.

"I need to think about it" isn't the real objection.

Agree with them first, then ask what's actually holding them back, price, process, timing, or you.

The truth only comes out once their guard is down.

"Are you a dealer?" isn't the real question.

Sellers are really asking if they're about to waste an afternoon for a lowball.

Answer that fear, not the question, and the deal closes itself.
