Thursday was cloudy and so quiet as I recorded the whales...I was paddling in when I saw these 2 whales and turned around...this the sound they were making under the ocean...you may not see them but they are there...watch out for them especially if you are on a boat or jetski...it was as always beautiful out there...

I woke up predawn to the full moon today then out with the whales...to the naked eye they seemed calm but they were busy doing life...I recorded what happens in their world and it is mighty...respect them they don't need us except to do that. Nature doing what comes naturally.
Thanks @outoftheblueadventures I am grateful I can be out there on the open ocean with these creatures...

Over the decades, I've taught many training courses on hydrophone operation and underwater sound analysis. These classes were always focused on @cetrestec hydrophones that I had designed, manufactured, and sold. Now that I no longer build hydrophones, I haven't taught any classes and I miss that! I would love to teach more classes on underwater recording and/or sound analysis, and rather than deciding exactly what the courses would entail by myself, I'd like to hear from you what you'd like to learn. Please let me know in the comments.
Also, any class I teach will be in person. We learn so much better that way, and I've run online training sessions since long before it became the post-pandemic standard and I'm no longer interested in doing that.

Throwback to 13 years ago when I designed and built this directional stereo hydrophone with the help of @gooniesneversaydie .
Nine year old shown for scale 🙂 and he also filmed the assembly and operating video I narrated for the customer.

Testing the flow noise of a suction-cup-attached acoustic tag three weeks ago during a bit of a break in the rain on a very blustery Sunday. This newly modified CATS tag uses a custom @cetrestec CR3 hydrophone.

Are you as obsessed with Orcas as we are? Because… we’re still in awe!

This slow-mo beauty is Bigg’s (Transient) Orca T101B/Lagoon, born in 1997 to his mother T101/Reef (born 1969😱). We spotted them alongside sibling T101A/Rush — an unforgettable family moment out on the Salish Sea with @eaglewingtours 🦅

These incredible Orcas feed on pinnipeds, other marine mammals and sometimes even seabirds. Every move is pure power and grace. Aren’t you mesmerized? 🌊💙Moments like these show why education and research are such big and important parta of what we do here at SBS 🕊️
