Yesterday, your UWSA Student Senators along with their counterparts in both the Organization of Part-Time Undergraduate Students (OPUS) and the Graduate Students’ Society (GSS), as well as our friends in the Windsor University Faculty Association (WUFA) and among University of Windsor senior leadership, accomplished something very significant during the first Senate meeting of the academic year.

In a nearly unanimous vote, the Senate approved academic amnesty for students wishing to participate in the province-wide walk-out and demonstration slated to occur on November 5th in opposition to the changes to the OSAP framework which have made post-secondary education less accessible to so many students in Ontario.

Academic amnesty means that students wishing to participate in the walk-out and the associated demonstration will not receive any academic penalties for being absent from their lectures, including participation marks, quizzes, assignment due dates, etc. IMPORTANT: in order to receive accommodation under this amnesty, students intending to participate MUST communicate with the relevant professor(s) for courses they will miss on November 5th no less than 48 hours before that date.

The UWSA will be releasing the full details of planned demonstration activities at the University of Windsor including time and location in the coming days through a variety of methods including social media, Brightspace, and email, so monitor those regularly if you are interested in participating in this movement!
