The same brief never leads to a single outcome. In Decoding Identities, each project is shaped by the references, experiences, and perspectives each student brings to the process. Over time, this has formed a diverse body of work around the design of playlist identities across different music genres.

Some genres reappear over the years, but each edition introduces new predefined names. This post looks at projects developed for Reggaeton playlists by students from multiple editions of the course.

A new class starts soon with limited spots. Enrollment is now open.

Gigi and I are in the same class called Brilliant Voice.

We never really talked until two weeks ago, we both arrived earlier and we talked about how the program wasn’t how we expected it to be.

Gigi is a second year nonfiction student, I’m her junior.

Then we also talked how the majority of students in our program are not really open to networking. They tend to talk and hangout with their own circle only like high school students while the world of writing and writers is a small world.

I told her how I was surprised to find New York City and Columbia University are very cold and not as friendly as I thought. People talked and really talked with you then exchanged emails and numbers but they would never reply to your texts or text you first.

I also told her how many of my classmates didn’t even look at me when we passed by in the corridor or stair or lobby or around the campus as if I were invisible.

Gigi then asked me what my plan was for Thanksgiving. I thought about going to Washington DC, a Sijabat Namboru invited me to her house but I decided to stay in NYC because I have two finals that are due next week.

So I went to Gigi’s house for this Friendsgiving (Thanksgiving is a colonialism’s product) with Bowen. Honestly, with the heavy rain and I was shivering from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, I was so lazy but I didn’t want to disappoint Gigi.

And, Bowen and I agreed we made the right decision to go to Gigi’s for our first ever Friendsgiving in New York.

We got to meet and talk with super nice people mostly from Domican Republic but have been living here: Mario, Checco, Chago and Cesar (Gigi’s husband), Becky and Mario’s wife who’s from Vietnam and their daughters. Gigi’s 3 year old son is so cute. And their dog Kubi is so amusing.

The foods are five star hotel quality cuisines! Chaggo made most of the delicacies.

Bowen and I couldn’t thing of a better first ever Friendsgiving.

Thank so much for the love and warmth Gigi and family and friends. 💙💜❤️🩵
