This beautiful orchard near Lake Champlain is the perfect place to soak up those Vermont fall vibes! It’s also close to our friends at @pawhouseinn 🍂

🍎 Explore the dog-friendly outdoor areas and enjoy the gorgeous orchard scenery. 🌟 Follow the rules as there is a designated section in the orchard for apple picking with your dog.

🍻 Grab a locally made hard cider or craft beer and relax with your pup in the outdoor cider garden! You can just stop in and enjoy a sip and one amazing charcuterie board!

🧀 Don’t skip the adorable farm store! It’s packed with delicious Vermont goodies like local cheeses, maple syrup, fresh produce, and more. Just remember, pups have to wait outside!

🐶 Good to know: Dogs are welcome in designated outdoor areas, but not inside the farm store. So bring a friend for leash holding while taking turns to shop.

Apple Pie Rings 🍎🥧

* 2 large firm apples (I used Cosmic Crisp)
* 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed but still cold
* 2 Tbsp + 2tsp granulated sugar
* 2 Tbsp + 2tsp light brown sugar
* 2 tsp ground cinnamon
* Vanilla ice cream
* Cider syrup

- Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
- Slice the apples crosswise into thick rings, approximately 1/2 inch thick. Remove the core from the center of each slice to create a ring
- Unroll the puff pastry and cut into thin strips, approximately 1/2 inch wide
- In a small mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon
- Wrap the puff pastry strips around each apple ring, threading the pastry through the center until the apple is mostly covered
- Once wrapped, generously coat each apple ring in the cinnamon sugar mixture, making sure the puff pastry is evenly coated
- Arrange the apple rings on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the puff pastry is puffed and golden brown
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving
- Best enjoyed warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzle of cider syrup!

Nothing says fall in Vermont quite like apples, which is why we’re excited to feature them as October’s @vtharvestofthemonth! 🍎🍏

This month, Green Mountain Farm Direct is distributing 96 cases of apples from Hall’s Orchard to schools across the state to incorporate into their menu planning and farm-to-school educational programming.

Family-owned since 1828, @halls_orchard is one of the oldest orchards in the state. Based in Isle La Motte, the orchard offers many different apple varieties, pick-your-own apples, and fresh cider in season. Owner-and-operator Allen Hall works hard to keep prices affordable so Vermont schools can purchase local apples throughout the fall.

Did you know that there are over 14,000 varieties of apples grown in the United States? Farm Direct has some great varieties available on our product list from @champlainorchards, based in Shoreham, VT.

We hope you get out to pick your own apples or support your nearby orchards by buying your apples locally this fall!
