Theatre of Dreams It’s hard to say whether I "understood" it. It was layered and blurry, fragmented, flickering, emotional. There was no single figure I could fix my gaze upon. And yet — it was so intense, overwhelmingly so. The whole stage felt like one vast, resonating ribcage. There was drumbeat and roar, endless and all around — like a heartbeat, like blood rushing. It didn‘t explain anything. It just happened. Like raw ore of energy, leaving its aftershocks in the body long after the eyes have opened～ #hofeshshechter #theatreofdreams

We gave a disposable camera to the dancers and crew of Hofesh Shechter Company @hofeshco during their time at Holland Dance Festival — and this is what we got back 🫶 Inspired by @lifeonfilm. “And now we can be grateful for the gift of memory,” sings Molly Drake in the soundtrack of 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴. The HDF team couldn’t agree more — we’re deeply grateful for all the beautiful memories the dance companies have shared with us and our audience. 🖤

oh 𝕯𝖆𝖚𝖌𝖍𝖙𝖊𝖗𝖘 —how you’ve taught me, nourished me, I’ll never be the same 💘 prologue/// rewriting a collective myth collaborative working of an all-female & non-binary team exploring female gaze, being seen, witnessed decentralizing patriarchal structure utopian fantasy of defiance what a year it’s been, and now it is almost time for our film to be released ❣️ inspired the folklore tale of Aino of Kalevala, “the only one” created from stories of many, claimed by one- a story of resistance, autonomy, and self-determination, at the start of our alternative continuum, making film in the remoteness of South Karelia, home of my family, where the immense beauty of the scenery, vast storytelling tradition, and the geopolitical oddities- past and current- are deeply felt. I learned to swim in this body of water, taught by the women who learned before me, and always keep returning led by play, embracing naivety, craftiness, girl core, anarchist fantasies, community, and craving, an unforgettable, mad, stunning hardcore week of shooting- enduring, flowing and morphing, meeting and digesting it all again in the months that followed in post, and all that was done silently before to make this a reality, brining my work to Finland for the first time after 9 years away, connecting our international/Finnish team in an independent production, what a mountain we climbed, what pleasure THANK YOU to the stars of my heart, our team; I’m in awe of each of you, and I will cherish this always @maia_taieb @hetaemilie @nadfarghaly @salya__brf @clar3rt__ @kuutamoeuropaeus @lielfibak @vilma.jaa @chanelvyent @saanalyly @ainasoja.v @sickymuah @paerttylinyyrikki2 @monnionkauniskala @sarrahwilkman @aslaug.magnusd @bridget__ferrill @aribooo0 to my family and friends for support, this would not have been possible without your generous help to the funders, sponsors, supporters, oh boy, did we put it to good use! @afk020, @avekfi, @cultuurfonds, Leven het Geven, @kulttuurirahasto one for the books. more soon… <3 pictures by @saanalyly @lielfibak & everyone
