Celebratory porch pictures for MADDIE 🄳 We took this sweet shrimp to her forever home this weekend! Maddie was our first deaf foster and perhaps our greatest challenge yet. Over the last year with us she has learned hand signs, leash skills and gained once unimaginable confidence. This dog is pure joy and we are so happy to share that we have found her the absolute best family. Thank you to everyone who helped Maddie along the way! #mcprescuepack #fosterdog #chicagofosterdogs #rescuedogsofinstagram #deafdogsrockā¤ļø

Maddie.

Maddie came from Chicago Animal Care & Control like nothing we’d ever seen, adorable and happy, but wonderfully different.

She was wobbly, her eyes could do gymnastics, and she moved through life like a tiny cowgirl riding through mazes only Maddie could see.

She was a deaf puppy with zero training and very little understanding of the world. When the shelter asked her to do simple things most dogs can do, while she was trying to process stress, confusion, and a whole new planet of expectations, it proved one thing: MCP or bust.

There was something magical in her chaos.

Her heart glittered in every wobble, every soft under bite peek, and fast paced, wild goat zoomie.

We saw her like Tinker Bell, pure sparkle with a brave little body.

In foster, it got real.

Shelter sickness showed up, and so did the Serengeti mouth that can come with deaf pups who never got the chance to learn how to dog.

It was hard. Patience wore thin. Progress wasn’t linear.

But Maddie’s determination to prevail, to learn, and to actually retain what was being taught, paired with the commitment of her incredible foster dad (and mom), is the kind of thing that turns ordinary people into real life heroes.

Thank you, Chang and Natalie, for showing up when it was messy and staying long enough for the magic to take shape.

If you’re looking for a gem that fills your world in ways you never imagined, Maddie is it.

Social, smart, different, silly, beautiful, and absolutely capable with a reminder to us all that with intention, commitment to putting in the work— we are capable of doing hard things.

Maddie rocks!

Love our humans. Love our dogs.

Maddie is looking for humans equally as beautiful and special as she is.

Today ...

Thank you, GMan, for holding space for us, for being the home base for Holidogs, and for letting our people and our pups take up room the way family does.

Thank you to our sponsors, volunteers, our craft makers, and our wholesome food providers: for showing up with your talents, your hands, your time… and then giving it all back to the community with so much generosity. You are beautiful.

Thank you to our incredible, professional board — the steady, brilliant humans behind the scenes who make this event possible. Your time, effort, and hearts. Thank you for showing up in the ways that don’t always get seen, for caring like it’s personal (because it is), and for helping us turn big love into real plans that actually happen.

To our regulars and to all the new faces who showed up this cold day and instantly felt like they belonged — thank you.

Holidogs is cozy in the best way: a soft place to land at the end of a year, to celebrate what we survived, what we built, and what we’re still brave enough to believe in.

Together we are community. Chicago’s underdogs. The humans who show up, love hard, and do hard things. The opportunities we fight to create so dogs can stay safe, healthy, and home — and so the people who adore them don’t have to face impossible choices alone.

Maddie, today, was the example of what we do.
A deaf pitbull at Chicago Animal Care and Control. A dog who once knew chaos and fear, who leash-bit her way through the world because she didn’t know she was safe… now has a routine. Hand commands. People who understand her language and who taught her ours. People who do flinch, who do tire, but people who stay, who teach, who love, who do hard things— and by doing so brought this delightful girl to her very best self.

That’s foster commitment. That’s patience as a daily practice. That’s what it looks like when a community chooses to be the steady ground beneath a dog learning how to trust again.

Kudos to our people— all of you.

Our gratitude is abundant — for the heart, for the work, for the warmth, and for the reminder that we can do hard things… together.

We love our humans.
We love our dogs.
We love this city.
