The vision for this conference started two years ago when I applied for our UW chapter to host the National GSSA Conference. I realized that most global medical conferences tend to focus on non-surgical specialties and the ones that do exist often don't provide students with tangible steps on how to actually get connected to mentors and organizations. So we made our own! After an initial rejection, I applied again last summer and found out we got accepted in October.

6 months of hard work later, our team successfully hosted the FIRST-EVER Global Surgery Conference at UW! We had nearly 60 in-person attendees as well as 120 virtual participants from around the world.

So many thought-provoking discussions and INCREDIBLE networking between surgeons, organizations, and students.

THANK YOU to my incredible team who juggled medical school, undergrad finals, and life to still make this conference possible!
Thank you to our incredible panelists who brought guidance to the next generation of physician-leaders.
Thank you to our workshop volunteers who taught invaluable skills to our students-- some of whom were learning them for the first time.

Not only did we pull of a FREE conference, but we ended up with a surplus of food haha.

Over and over, physicians kept saying, "This was incredibly well-done. We cannot wait to see what you guys do next year." Intially my reaction was, "What do you mean 'next time'?"
But maybe they're right.
Maybe this isn't the end... Maybe it's just the beginning... 😏

When I got accepted to med school, I knew it was my last chance to go all in and try Latin dancing. Needless to say, it was the best decision ever! 💃✨️
Love that no matter how stressful school gets, dance is something I cant turn to for de-stressing, joy, exercise, and making new friends ☺️
