Retreat, relax, reconnect

Thank you all so much for another fabulous retreat. Lots of fizz and giggles, story sharing and bouncing ideas, and many moments of inspiring peace.

You all keep me sane and after every weekend we spend together I feel more empowered to tackle this crazy bookish world (and life as a creative in general 😂). 🥰 thank you for all your kind hearts and awesomeness ❤️

Already counting down the days to the next one.

Of course there were books... And we scrutinised them!

One of my new favourites is 'I'm for You and You're for Me' by @imaginationus2 and @c.groenink .

Others loved 'Pincho, Nothing is Possible' by @ben.sanders.illustrator and there was lots of discussion about 'The House with the Little Red Door' by @higraceeaston .

Our spooky corner included 'The Skull' by @jonklassen , 'Theres a Ghost in his House' by @oliverjeffers and 'Witchy Boo' Casts her First Spell' by @ardenelizajones and @saoirselouscribbles .

Which books would you bring on a retreat?

MY WRITING WIN this week was emailing my agent.

I don't know about you, but the summer holidays massively slow down my writing productivity - so I'm counting any kind of contact with the publishing world a writing win.😉

MY WRITING WOE is having a barrage of ideas and not being able to focus on any of them. My actual children have to take priority of course, but my book babies have been screaming for attention since the end of term.

(Actually they've been screaming for longer - just don't tell my agent.)

What are your wins and woes of the week?

Retreat time…

Books, bubbles, walking boots and the best group of creatives to bring out stories!

You are all awesome and I’m blessed to have you in my life. Thank you for being the wonderful and supportive people you all are.

Managed a little digital illustration, a lot of story editing and now feel refocused and eager to keep going!

Thank you @thefairytalemum @charli_wenden

The weekend I knew I needed but didn’t realise how much.

I say it every time we have one of our retreats but I am incredibly lucky to have these ladies in my life. A weekend of laughter, imagination, and friendship with much needed hugs sprinkled in between.

For anyone have a wobbly moment - keep going because you deserve to see what happens when all your hard work pays off.

Pearls of perfection not just wisdom!

You lovely bunch make these weekends just the best, most chilled, super creative and wonderful!

I feel extremely blessed to have you in my circle not just with this writing lark and bookish world but as supportive and inspiring individuals, each and every one of you.

Thank you for another awesome retreat and let’s get the next one booked! Maybe somewhere less haunted though 🫣 or perhaps we can just leave the apples at home 😂

How to Critique (AWFUL AUTHOR EDITION)

HELP! The Awful Author has hijacked my Instagram!

It's been a busy week for critiques this week. It's always a pleasure to read other writers' stories and I'm thankful for the way others have helped to shape mine.

I'm not sure The Awful Author has understood how to be a good critique partner though. Can you help them?

As always, a weekend of friendship, laughter, and imagination.

I return home with my heart full each time. It is a privilege to be part of POW and I feel blessed to be around such talent.

I can’t wait for the next one.

Thank you ladies 🧡

I had the loveliest of weekends with this clan. Walking, writing, reading, critiquing - it was wonderful. Can we do it again please?
