Our second print issue is out today!

Roads & Kingdoms, Issue 2: The Sixth Taste features 144 pages of deep-cut storytelling from writers, artists, and photographers around the world. Issue 1 won the James Beard Award for food coverage in a general interest publication—and this one goes further.

From the psychedelic Mexi-futurist corn cover by @raulurias__ to dispatches from @olbullough and @yasminkhanstories to a speculative essay on potatoes by @hilleaton that unfolds during a momentary rupture of spacetime, this issue explores the notion of context. How it colors every experience, every taste, every sensation. How it changes everything.

Available at the link in our bio, the issue includes reporting from Sichuan, Sicily, Luanda, and Nayarit. @ultraclay documents the fight to keep the Jamaican coastline in local hands and @eugeniosignoroni tells the story of how Italian wine culture was changed forever by a deadly crime spree in the 1980s, accompanied by never-before-published 1966 photographs that may be the most intimate record of daily life in a Piedmontese provincial osteria from that era.

You’ll also find a conversation with travel industry legend @ricksteveseurope and the second edition of “The R&K 50,” our global list of the restaurants that our favorite chefs, writers, and eaters think of as second homes, with contributions from @padmalakshmi, @rezaian, @julietavenegasp, and more.

🚨Wanted: a loving family. Not a perfect one.🚨♥️

A family willing to care for this little dog with all their heart — if she chooses them too.

Her name is Pulga.

We found her near the caves of Mitla during a journey with @roadsandkingdoms & @becino.oax . We had gone there to learn about the beginnings of agriculture in Oaxaca — the domestication of corn, beans, squash, and chiles. We went looking for roots… and somehow, she appeared along the way.

Pulga decided to join the Caravana Canina.

She is a little Zapotec shepherd: sweet, noble, full of energy, gentle, and with the kind of eyes that stay with you.

Now we are looking for a family willing to let this beautiful being become part of their life.

If you feel she could be part of your family, send us a message.

With love,
@caravanacanina × Coyote Aventuras

What’s next for the Anti-ICE Supper Club?

Six months ago, we launched a series of fundraising dinners in support of local immigrant advocacy organizations that builds on a project we started in 2017 with our late partner Anthony Bourdain.

The response was beyond our wildest expectations. From across North America, we heard from chefs, restaurants, and organizers wanting to get involved, to bring the Anti-ICE Supper Club to their town and take a stand in defense of their neighbors amid an unprecedented wave of anti-immigrant government action.

What was supposed to be four events turned into an unstoppable, cross-country force of eating, drinking, and solidarity. To date, we have held 17 dinners across eight cities and raised more than $100,000 for some of our country’s great frontline immigrant advocacy organizations. So far.

Perhaps most powerful of all, the Anti-ICE Supper Club turned out to be not just a series but a living, breathing network of restaurant workers, activists, chefs, organizers, journalists, and people of all stripes willing to put their money where their mouths are in support of the communities that remain the lifeblood of this nation.

Now, after a short summer pause, we’re hitting the road again, beginning with Minneapolis, Kansas City, New Orleans, Cape Cod, and New York. But we need your help to keep this motor running.

If you’re a chef or hospitality partner, send us a DM to bring the series to your kitchen. For everyone else: tag a restaurant or chefs in the comments that belongs on this lineup!

A belated but very heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out for the Pre-Game Indie Media Brunch that we co-hosted with @saveurmag on the morning of the James Beard Media Awards at the beautiful Txa Txa Kitchen Studio by @txatxaclub in Chicago.

What a pleasure to get to convene a room of people moving the American food world forward, and to see so many old friends in the process.

Major props to Erin Drain (@erindrain), who not only curated the excellent wines on offer but pulled together a killer lineup of sponsors, including @thezeroproof, @cultivamos_usa, and @thefoodcourt.projects. Thank you to @spirittea for the excellent oolongs, @eatframani for the bomb charcuterie, and to @jasperhillfarm and @northcountrysmokehouse for the rest of our extraordinary brunch spread.

It was a joy and an honor to hang with you all on a very special weekend for us!
