Why does Parker recommend #YouthWorks to other young people in Baltimore?

The 15-year-old Baltimore School for the Arts student spent her summer working with CHARM City Literary Magazine and The Baltimore Times, sharpening her journalism skills and learning more about the world of publishing.

Beyond her creative work experiences, Parker mentioned is was the people who made her summer special. “Not even at school have I found people this open and kind.”

Week 1 was a success and all about Finding Your Identity- Telling the world who you are.

This week, Week 2, we’re exploring the theme “You are what you eat” and how what we eat shapes our physical and mental well-being.

We will unpack descriptive writing and several poetic forms to help our young writers bring their words to live.

We still have a few seats left for our last two sessions. Registration link in my bio and story for young writers to apply!

BALTIMORE CITY, I need your help!

I’m creating an opportunity I wish I had when I was a young writer scribbling poems and raps in my composition notebook in middle and high school.

I’d like to introduce Project: My Youth, My Lessons on Life, an accelerated, three week (three day) creative writing, poetry and SEL workshop for Baltimore youth ages 13-18.

Project: My Youth, My Lessons on Life is created by poet and writer Wallace Lane and inspired by his forthcoming book, My Youth, My Lessons on Life: As Told By The Poet & The Young OG. This biyearly workshop, in collaboration with @charmlitmag , is an initiative that allows young writers to write, create and publish in just a few weeks.

If you know a young writer who is serious about publishing their work OR a young writer that needs a little push to share their work with the world, then please send them this graphic!!! Thank you to our Youth Works interns from CHARM: Voices of Baltimore Youth! This summer, they sharpened their interview skills by sitting down with Baltimore Unity Hall board members and staff, and dug into the broader work we do across the community. 💪🏽

We loved having your energy, curiosity, and voices in the building. You asked thoughtful questions, listened closely, and reminded us why investing in young people matters. Baltimore’s future is in good hands. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Yesterday, GIVE Fellows dove deeper into their #GIVEAdvisoryProjects during our sixth GIVE Fellowship workshop!

It was thrilling to watch connections grow as Fellows and their nonprofits moved from initial ideas toward clearer project focus areas, roadmaps, and next steps. As these pro bono consulting projects begin to take shape, we’re seeing the thoughtful collaboration that makes GIVE so meaningful.

Thank you to the team at @umbctraining, led by Marc Kolp, for guiding this session and helping prepare our teams for the work ahead. Thank you as well to our GIVE Advisory Project nonprofits for attending and contributing to this monumental process.

Last but certainly not least, thank you to @baltsymphony for hosting us in their beautiful space! We look forward to seeing how these nonprofit consulting projects continue to develop in the weeks ahead.
