How do you distill two years into one post?

The long shoots, the snowstorms that didn’t derail us, the spring that brought the irises, the summer that captured the Rill in all its glory, and the late nights with pages scattered everywhere and Ava snoring beside us. The laughter, the collaboration, the inspiration, and everything in between. And oh, when Ava met Georgie!!!

Charlotte inspires everyone who has the pleasure of knowing her, but she also has an innate ability to bring out the best in the people around her. It’s that trust, generosity, and collaboration that brought the pages of this book to life.

To Charles Miers and Philip Reeser, for your trust and guidance. To @pieterestersohnphoto for your incredible eye and your ability to capture the perfect light. @francescolagnese and @carolynenglefield for your talent, wisdom, and friendship. I can’t wait to see the beauty we created together in the pages of @fredericmagazine And to @hayleyellenday for patiently capturing my flatlays, running between the garden and conservatory in pursuit of just the right light, and always being my favorite hype woman.

Swipe for a little behind-the-scenes look at the making of Charlotte Moss at Home in Virginia, our sixth book together. @charlottemossco

Art directing and styling this book has been a true labor of love. Charlotte and I started making books together and it’s what’s we’ll continue to do, but more on that later 😉

I couldn’t keep the sound on the video of Charlotte and I howling in the middle of a snowstorm, so you’ll have to go to my stories for that one 😭

What do clippings have to do with self-expression?

As Charlotte Moss knows, sometimes the smallest things tell the biggest stories. A clipping, a collection, a passing inspiration… they all reveal something about who we are and how we see the world.

Here we dive into the stories beyond the pages of Charlotte’s latest book, At Home in Virginia, and the ideas that make a house, a book, or a life uniquely your own.

“Wildflowers were my first encounter with selecting, collecting, and arranging. They introduced me to a world with no boundaries and no rules. Buttercups and dandelions were the necklaces we made as children, and we felt bejeweled by them. Wildflowers taught me that what there is, there is, and to make the most of it, even if a single blossom is the bounty of the day.” @charmossny

In an article with @flowermagazine Charlotte takes us back to summers spent along the Virginia river, collecting blackberries and gathering whatever caught her eye along the roadside: Honeysuckle, Queen Anne’s lace, chicory, and all the wonderfully imperfect things that most of us might simply call “weeds.”

Those early experiences shaped the way she sees the natural world, finding beauty in what’s growing right in front of us. And perhaps that’s the lesson that stayed with her most: finding beauty in the unexpected, and knowing that even a single blossom can be enough.

Swipe through for some of Charlotte’s wildflower arrangements and read about the memories behind her love of flowers at the link in our story.
