$100K H1B fees??

I asked Sid Chary, physician immigration lawyer at @charylawny for help understanding what’s happening and how this may impact physicians.

Here are a few key takeaways:

1) It’s too early (as of 9/22/25) to say what the impact, if any will be on physicians. More to come in the next few weeks, but stay calm. Stay off of Reddit 😘

2) If you can avoid leaving the country in the near term, you may want to play it safe and pause plans until we know more.

3) This appears to be primarily targeted at tech, not healthcare. There are preexisting national interest waivers that may be used to waive these requirements for healthcare employers, but it’s way too early to tell.

4) There will likely be legal challenges. The new rule has been in effect for only one day. Let’s keep an eye on them to see if they are able to pause this rule from coming into effect.

Sid will be back when there’s more to share. Feel free to connect with him at charylaw.com if you’re a physician with immigration related legal needs. I do this regularly 🤘

Thanks, Sid! Chat soon.

It’s that time of year again, IMG fellows and residents graduating in 2025 are actively interviewing and gearing up to submit J-1 waiver applications in hopes of obtaining a waiver so that they are not subject to the 2 Year Home Residency Requirement. If you are a resident or fellow graduating in 2025 or an organization looking to hire a candidate in need of a J-1 waiver but need some guidance deciphering the immigration process, please do not hesitate to reach out. Chary Law is well versed in this niche area of immigration law and have helped many physicians and organizations successfully.
