Me being a pretty mediocre rider why not stick to being a mediocre photographer too. I can’t remember if it was @tbirdley or who but I did get a photog name while going out to a few Superparks years ago where I was dubbed “Auto Focus”… I was cool w that too as I sat and clicked away with some of today’s most well known snowboard photographers with an old Cannon T70 and two cheap lenses. I was there for fun and being w friends so if I got a few ok pics I was happy. So here are a few from back around 13-15 yrs ago that I took at random places. @forestbailey Chas? Lonnie Kauk @hironakasan @mulchmulch @gbokenka @tannerpendleton Chris Carr @scottylago Mulch @chasguldemond @jakewelch I think and @mattilaristo up @sugarloafmountain west chair road gap. Story time! During my first year getting paid to film snowboarding, I was in charge of the US billabong and atomic snowboard sponsored riders. Jimmy Tomer, Danny Garrity, Greg Maxwell, and Shayne Pospisil. One day Danny’s friend Chas came out with us to the back country and immediately I could see that he was pretty much better than everybody I was entrusted to capture. So I started filming him, on 16mm, without permission from my boss. I was sooo green and had no clue there was around a 20K buy in for each rider to be in the movie. Also, shooting film ain’t cheap! When the boss saw the first transfer he was like, “footage looks great but who’s this other guy you’re filming?” To which I quickly and naively replied, “That’s Chuck G, you should put him in your movie!” Hahaha! The boss paused for a second then replied, “Ok, yeah, keep filming him!”. The rest is history! Chas ended up getting his own part in the movie because he stacked so much footage. The other guys I was getting paid to film all ended up sharing a part. The next year, Chas filmed with Standard, won a bunch of contests, and his career exploded! This story is definitely a highlight along the journey of filming the shred. Here’s to the wild cards out there, and those willing to take a chance on someone!

@chasguldemond knocked himself out competing in NZ a few days earlier but it didn’t stop him launching massive backside rodeos over the @redbullau DJ ute death gap and taking the TTR lead with 5th overall at 2008 Stylewars.

@chasguldemond always went big and threw crazy spins on his trips to Oz. I needed a proper fisheye for this shot but I just love Chas’ crazy facial expression and Mohawk in this frame of his @btoddrichards-inspired “wet cat” tail grab.
