A grouper is identified as a Goliath primarily by its immense size, becoming one of the largest in the Atlantic and the western hemisphere, reaching up to 8 feet long and over 800 pounds. Other key physical characteristics include a large, “grumpy” mouth with small eyes, a robust body with brown and yellow mottled patterns, and irregular dark spots with dark body bands.

Spotted off the southern coast of Malta.

So excited to have done our first coral survey snorkel in a long time! Everyone is BEAMING with happiness after a paddle about in the water with dolphins and a turtle 😍

Not all heroes wear capes but all heroes use rebreathers 😜

Taken a few weeks back on a mid-morning Sunday dive. The visibility wasn't the greatest and the water temp was a bit cold considering it was the peak of summer but any oppurtunity to be back in the water is one that I will never miss 😍

Pictured: Simon Bradley making his way out of the water after a refreshing dip, wearing his @maresjustaddwater Horizon rebreather unit.

Crystal clear skies and diver guys! 😁☀️

To me, one of the best parts of any dive is those moments before you even start gearing up and taking the opportunity to absorb and appreciate what a beautiful day it is to be going on a dive. Beautiful blue skies, the warm summer's sun shining down on you and knowing that once again you have been granted the privilege to do what you love most. It's always the little things that are what makes diving so special.

I don't share too many pieces of content that don't belong to me on here, but this one is important to me. Not only does this impact a large number of migratory pelagic creatures, but its in a place that is high on my bucket list during a time (Sardine Run) where there will be thousands of creatures in the area feeding.

The rugged Wild Coast of South Africa is a region of unparalleled beauty and biodiversity. Every year, billions of sardines move north along this unspoiled coastline, attracting and sustaining sharks, dolphins, sailfish, whales and other marine life. Now, in the wake of the COP26 climate conference where leaders agreed on the urgent need for action, a seismic survey of the area is about to begin in hopes of finding new oil and gas deposits under the seafloor. Beyond the immediate damage caused to marine life by the destructive and incredibly loud seismic air guns, the exploitation of further fossil fuel reserves in an environmentally sensitive area goes against all common sense when considering the intertwined climate and biodiversity crises.

Together with @eyeforce @OceansNotOil, @parley.tv and @sentinelocean, @oceancltv Ocean Collective documented the arrival of Shell’s survey ship and will support raising awareness and local efforts in the upcoming weeks.

What does a seismic survey look like?
For the next 5 months every 10 seconds, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the vessel is firing loud shock waves into the sea bed which could have detrimental effects on one of the most beautiful marine ecosystems in the country.
