POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I’ve been close to @speciwomen since I met @chatwithphilo back in 2016 and all their projects have been so dear to my heart 🩷
But since last year I got way closer!
I had the amazing opportunity to support and accompany Kim Torres’s residency as part of our @at.magnet program.
Meeting Kim, discover her creative process by spending time with her in the studio, working with @speciwomen and @99canal.nyc was really one of the most inspiring experiences this city could offer and helped me to find some hope in the midst of these difficult time we’re leaving.
So here is a little bts of these three months ( and a diaporama of Kim’s life) I wanted to share with you! We did weekly meetings, screenings, interviewings, radiorecordings, substackings, dancings, we did it all ⭐️
(The two screenings were at @metrograph and @uniondocs)
It was so moving to follow this journey,
Thank you so much to the amazing women of the @speciwomen board and everyone that made this possible.
And to the others, go see more on @speciwomen !!

New class announcement🔊💥Martha and I are back teaching our favorite workshop: Unfolding Spaces.

This workshop explores the artist book as a space where images and narratives are constructed, layered, and inhabited. Participants will design and create their own books, focusing on the architectural qualities of the book form and its ability to hold and shape visual storytelling. Through hands-on experimentation with images, text, and materials, the course emphasizes rethinking the book as both a physical structure and a dynamic space for narrative and expression.

Workshop dates: January 13 – March 7

This week's PKB Publisher Picks with Philo from Speciwomen @chatwithphilo @speciwomen

"My publishing practice treats the book as a site of radical assembly—where form bends to voice, and language opens a space for thinking otherwise. Each edition becomes a fugitive architecture for gathering what resists categorization"

Philo's picks from the PKB catalogue:

Tender published by @tbwbooks

Artistic representation isn’t just about showing diversity—it’s about reshaping narratives to reflect the full spectrum of human experience. True inclusion rejects tokenism—symbolic gestures of diversity that fail to drive meaningful change.

To achieve change, we must rethink curatorial practices, funding structures, and leadership roles to embed inclusion at every level of decision-making. It also means creating space for artists to share their realities, challenge stereotypes, and inspire change.

When marginalized voices take center stage, the arts become a powerful vehicle for empathy, understanding, and transformation. It is vital to create an art world that reflects the richness and complexity of human experience. Only by fully embracing diversity can the arts evolve into a space where every voice matters.

We asked three leaders in the art world—@camillegbacon , @chatwithphilo and @derive_surlenil—how they define visibility, identify systemic barriers, and measure progress.
