(21/31) SÃO TOMÉ. and PRÍNCIPE 🇸🇹

Honestly, I had never heard of this country before until it came up in my mystery random pick for countries. 😅

I was so fascinated learning about São Tomé and Príncipe, but what really caught my attention was the Tchiloli tradition.

Tchiloli is a traditional form of theatre that has been performed in São Tomé for generations. It combines drama, music, dance, elaborate costumes and masks, and tells the story of a murder case involving members of a royal family. What I found especially interesting is how this tradition has taken a story with European origins and transformed it into something deeply rooted in São Toméan culture.

That’s why I chose the mask to represent Tchiloli, with the weighing scale symbolising the murder trial and the idea of justice.

I’m honestly so glad I started this project because every country has been teaching me something I didn’t know before.

And this is exactly why I love art sometimes you start with a painting and end up discovering a whole new part of the world.

See you on the next one🇸🇹🇸🇹

(20/31) ANGOLA 🇦🇴

@shilanurdalgc this is for You and My Angola People♥️♥️

What if a national symbol could tell more than one story?

For Angola, I incorporated the star, machete and cogwheel from the national flag, each carrying a deeper meaning. The star represents international solidarity and progress, the machete symbolises the struggle for agricultural production, and the cogwheel represents workers and industrial production.

But I wanted to tell another story, too.

I transformed the star into a window, inviting you to look inside and discover the beauty of Angola’s dance culture. Within it, a dancer emerges against the evening sky, inspired by the rhythm and spirit of Kizomba.

The red, black and yellow flow through the artwork, while the geometric patterns bring the face and body together.

For me, this is what the Living Canvas is about: looking beyond the flag, understanding its symbols, and discovering the stories, culture and identity they hold.

(19/31) SOUTH SUDAN 🇸🇸

I wanted this piece to feel like more than a flag on a body.
The land is shaped by the Nile; a river that flows through the landscape, connecting people, communities and generations. The silhouette standing within it represents the people of South Sudan: carrying stories, resilience and a deep connection to the land they call home.

The flag sits at the centre because, beyond borders and history, a nation is ultimately its people.

This is South Sudan, seen through my Living Canvas♥️🇸🇸

(18/31) SEYCHELLES

This is for my friend @rynia_sey ♥️♥️

For Seychelles, I wanted to capture the beauty of its islands through the Aldabra giant tortoise, the turquoise waters, and the movement of traditional island life. The Seychelles flag flows across the chest like the waves of the Indian Ocean, while the dance silhouettes celebrate the rhythm, culture and spirit of the islands.

(17/31) BURKINA FASO 🇧🇫

For Burkina Faso, I wanted to tell a story of breaking free from the shadows of the colonial era and looking towards a new chapter.

The hand emerging from within the flag represents strength, resistance and a people pushing forward, while the star shining through symbolises hope the light at the end of the tunnel.

A visual representation of a nation seeking to reclaim its identity, its direction and its future.

Burkina Faso — rising, resisting and rewriting its story.

(15/31) ZIMBABWE 🇿🇼

From the ancient stone walls of Great Zimbabwe to the iconic Zimbabwe Bird, this piece brings together symbols of Zimbabwe’s history, heritage and living culture.

The stone walls represent Great Zimbabwe: an extraordinary pre-colonial African civilisation whose legacy continues to stand.

The Zimbabwe Bird connects the artwork to one of the country’s most powerful national symbols.

Beneath it, the mbira represents Zimbabwe’s musical heritage with the bird standing as if it is bringing the instrument to life.

And flowing around them are the colours of the Zimbabwean flag connecting the past with the Zimbabwe of today. 🇿🇼

Ancient roots. Living rhythm. A heritage that continues to speak.
