We are completely speechlessly grateful! 😭❤️

Within less than TWO hours of posting our last video, you all came together and raised RM900! Your incredible generosity, kindness, and swift support mean the absolute world to us and these amazing kids.

(Please note: These videos were filmed before the fund was successfully raised!)

A massive well done to these students—it was actually their very first time being recorded in a video with a script, and they did fantastic! 👏🎬

For those who are still willing to contribute, I will keep you posted on an upcoming project! It will require a bigger fund, and we are definitely going to need a lot of your support to make it happen. 🌟

Thank you to every single person who donated, shared, and commented. You made this happen! 🙏✨

Forever grateful to the amazing photographer, videographer and @divevolkmalaysia for this timeless moment to capture these unforgettable moments 🤍

Swimming alongside a Green Sea 🐢 at Mabul Island during Miss Scuba International, a memory I’ll carry for life🌊

Special thanks to @prestigescuba for the comfortable @aropec_malaysia booties that carried me effortlessly through this dive and Prolube for the cool transparent mask — comfort and clarity made all the difference underwater 💙

The dolphins love to dance, and so do I —
maybe that’s why I feel so connected to them.
Their grace, their spirit, and their deep bond with their mothers mirror so much of our own lives. 💙
But these incredible beings are in danger, and they need us now more than ever.
Let’s stand for them, protect them, and keep their dance alive. 🐬🌊

So proud to share my Miss Scuba International submission with you. ✨

‘Budi’s Song’ (2023) is a 12:37 single-channel loop film featuring a big patchworked mat called ‘Tepo Putih Ikan Masin’ (Salted Fish White Mat). I’m so thrilled ‘Budi’s Song’ is currently showing at the University of the Sunshine Coast Art Gallery @uniscartgallery in Queensland in an exhibition titled TRANSFER curated by @rach_vance_ Rachael Vance. I’m thrilled to be showing alongside these artists whom I admire so much, many of whom are old friends. Thank you Rachael!

Artist’s privilege, I thought I would include some behind the scenes moments and share some of the joy and play embedded into the making of this work.

Most of the mat-making photos here and all drone shots are by our cinematographer and friend of the community @cheecheeandy Andy Chia. Thank you Andy for your calm steadfastness, generosity and all your care. Andy has shot all my Omadal films. He has also been part of SUARA Community Filmmaking running camera, sound and editing workshops with rural communities, including community filmmakers at Omadal Island.

Also featured here is Abang Annik, Kak Budi’s husband. He’s the super strong silent type who carries the heavy mat(s), rows the boat, supports all these crazy women. I’m so thankful for all Abang Annik’s help supporting his wife and the weavers. Supportive husbands make all the difference.

One day, I want to show the mat Tepo Putih Ikan Masin - the mat in the video in an intimate installation where you’re close enough to smell the mat, smell the salted fish. Thank you to friends from across Malaysia who gave me working mats from our many parts to patchwork together here.

Thank you especially to Kak Budi who the film is named for, for giving us song and dance and joy. There’s a video in this deck giving a sampling of her improv singing. She’s our most-loved diva in the group.

Please do see the slides in this deck for full credits and short artist statements for the works. Magsukul kommuniti Omadal!

My First Solo Backpacking - Kinabalu 🩵

A huge thank you to everyone I met on this journey. You were all so kind and took such good care of me. Although I didn’t take pictures with everyone (blame my shyness), I’m writing it all down so I’ll never forget these precious moments.

I still laugh thinking about how I stuttered when asking if I could team up with you guys. 🤣 Thankfully, you guys welcomed me with open arms and we ended up taking so many photos together on Mount Kinabalu. You guys were all amazing. Let’s meet in the Philippines next time!

The kindness of everyone on Mount Kinabalu was incredible. Friend from Miri even lent me their pole (which I almost couldn’t return! 😅), treated me a meal and gave me a ride back to my hostel after the climb. You guys were true lifesavers for my tired legs!

I'll also never forget the abang who brought me to buy Maggie Cups. And also the kind driver who picked me up from the hostel. He not only took me for breakfast but also stopped at Sinalau for me, even though he is Muslim.

At the hostel in Kota Kinabalu, I met a big brother who brought his PS5 and Switch and invited me to play. Then there was a sweet girl who invited me to explore the night markets together. And I can't forget the chitchats with guys from Germany and China, right up until the last minutes before I rushed to the airport. 😝

I’m so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and went on this solo backpacking adventure. As an introvert, I was nervous at first, but everyone I met turned this journey into an unforgettable experience.

This adventure wasn’t just about the places—it was about the amazing people who made it a story worth cherishing. 💙 Photo shared by Dennis Tay on December 29, 2024 tagging @_yfpq, @heraldea26, and @melvinx129. May be an image of 3 people, people climbing, mountain, fog and text.

Got a little free time today to paddle around in a transparent kayak and hang out with the fish! 🐠✨ It felt so magical seeing the marine life right beneath me. This moment was caught perfectly by my baby drone, Skye!

Big thanks to @schizostars for helping me out with my drone. I’ve always been the independent drone pilot, but I really appreciate your help in controlling Skye and capturing this magical moment.

Every day at Miss Scuba International feels like a dream come true. Representing Indonesia here is such an honor, and I’m loving every second of connecting with the ocean in new ways. 🇮🇩
