Some moments on film from last months @outofoffice.network residency

A few reflections:

- We need community most when we pivot.
Everyone in this group showed up at some kind of turning point. One person had been laid off and wanted to be intentional about what is coming next. Some were leaving long careers to finally bet on themselves. Others were coming back to work after becoming parents, job searching, or figuring out how to make their work sustainable while scaling their company. Or wanting to move countries. Sharing a space with people with different stories who all were at a shared moment was so powerful. Nobody’s path looked the same, and everyone left feeling a lot less alone.

- Community wisdom is the new currency.
Intentionally, there was no single „expert.“ When you bring the right people together, someone is always a few steps ahead of you on the exact thing you’re stuck on. This collective intelligence is what we can learn most from.

- Time away from work is an investment in our work.
For ambitious, busy people, focused in-person time doing non-work related things is such a valuable investment. Somewhere between creating natural dye bundles, immersing in nature, making pasta, or reading at the pool, you start hearing your own thoughts again. Saying them out loud to people who actually listen helps you find your language and your point of view. You go back connected to your center, and you move 10x more powerful from there.

- Bring your kids to work.
For one day, my daughter (and husband) joined us. Hosting with a little one def was a juggle, but I loved that she got to see a part of my work and how I connect with people. So much of our work happens on laptops, and our kids rarely get to see any of it.
I also invited an artist from Mexico City to come and share her story, and she brought her daughter too. While a room full of women listened to her mom, she curled up on her lap, BEAMING with pride ✨ Kids learn so much from watching us do what we love, and that afternoon she saw her mom as a role model in a whole new light.

It’s a wrap! We’re back from our Creative Residency in Italy 🧡 with a full heart and 5 days of dreaming up a more regenerative work/life ~ new possibilities ~ new chapters ~ making friends ~ eating amazing, nourishing Italian food ~ workshopping creative living ~ learning natural dyes ~ visiting artist studios ~ group support ~ listening ~ and working on new projects.

Durante la Ghesc Open Week (27.7-2.8), gli eventi culturali si sono sviluppati lungo più giornate, coinvolgendo i giovani della comunità locale ossolata.
La prima tappa di ricerca e creazione artistica ha visto protagonista il laboratorio IMPRONTE🌿, guidato dall’artista @caterina.pioletti_art assieme alle musiciste @irenediez_ e @eartothe_earth, studentesse della @hsmbasel_music_and_scene, che hanno portato i partecipanti a esplorare i dintorni boschivi alla ricerca di oggetti e suoni capaci di raccontare il territorio.
La restituzione è stata duplice: attraverso la tecnica dell’antotipia è nata un’opera collettiva, diventata poi la scenografia per il concerto serale di fisarmonica e flauto tenuto dal duo musicale. Un momento intimo in cui improvvisazione, composizione e suoni della natura si sono fusi insieme.
Durante la settimana, il laboratorio di auto-progettazione MANINELLA TERRA🪵, curato dagli architetti @dzastins__, @chris.piderit e @stcarrinoo, ha dato forma a sedute e strutture effimere di aggregazione, realizzate recuperando il legno di scarto presente nel borgo. Elementi che hanno accolto il pubblico per tutti gli eventi settimanali.
Spazio anche alla memoria con la presentazione parziale del cortometraggio THE SOUND OF THE REPUBBLICA DELL’OSSOLA🎶, curato dai musicisti e ricercatori @timmtetimmetot e @ivan.liuzzo: un progetto di ricerca che, attraverso le voci degli abitanti, esplora il paesaggio e le pratiche del territorio attraverso il suono.

Un grazie di cuore a tutte le anime in residenza che hanno condiviso con noi la propria arte, portando energia, entusiasmo e nuovi saperi all’interno della comunità di Fondazione Canova✨

Sicuramente più di una torta.

Sperimentando con @chef_francesca in una giornata di qualche mese fa, a fine inverno.
Pan di Spagna e crema di burro fatta in casa, calle, radicchio rosso, foglie di barbabietola, cavoletti di Bruxelles ed erbette del mio giardino.

Experimenting with @chef_francesca some months ago, at the and of the winter season.

Sponge cake and homemade buttercream, calle lilies, red radicchio, beet leaves, Brussels sprouts, and herbs from my garden.

Diaries of a Domodossola girl✨

Or everything about my week in Ghesc village studying vernacular architecture and Italian culture with @canovacanova_

It’s hard to call this just a work experience.

Yes, I came to learn about vernacular architecture and ended up quite literally building walls with my own hands. There’s something completely different about learning architecture this way: understanding materials, construction, produce drawings, attend lecture and ACTUALLY MAKING IT.

But my week with Fondazione Canova became so much more than architecture.

It was Northern Italian culture, incredible food, wine every evening, music and harps, artists and their work, morning yoga, dance performances, drawing, long communal dinners, mountains, laughter and conversations with people from completely different places.

Wonderful mountains, wonderful people, amazing food, creativity, love and a lot of happiness.

I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who made me feel so welcome and a special thank you to Francesca for the food (I will absolutely be asking for the recipes).

I’ve made wonderful friends that I already miss, and I think the most special part is knowing that I now have a place I can come back to.

Più di cento giorni fa aprivamo le porte a un luogo pensato per accogliere, incontrarsi e condividere momenti speciali. Le scorse settimane abbiamo celebrato più di 100 giorni insieme, e l’abbiamo fatto con chi ha creduto in questo progetto quando ancora era solo un’idea.

Un grazie ai nostri sostenitori e partner, che con la loro presenza, il loro entusiasmo e la loro collaborazione hanno contribuito a dare forma a questa avventura.

Questo traguardo è fatto di colazioni lente, pomeriggi al sole, eventi condivisi e tanti sorrisi incontrati lungo il percorso.

Memories on film 🎞️ from our @outofoffice.network Creative Residency 2 years ago.

And now, this September, she’s coming back! After a life-changing year of motherhood, moving to Barcelona and re-discovering and shaping life & work as a creative mom, I’m so excited to host a space again for humans who want to live with more intention, and be the authors of their own lives.

There’s gonna lots of time to enjoy the beautiful Italian countryside, long table dinners (which I’m especially excited about — if you’re a fellow new parent you know how rare dinners out are 😅), creative workshops to dream and learn new crafts — facilitated by myself and @ateliervetra — and the best Italian food prepared by my wonderful friend and chef in residence @chef_francesca 🍊🍝🍉 it’s a week of slow living, craft, creativity, imagination and space to reconnect to yourself.
