POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We look back on a wonderful collaboration between two very different restaurants — VUUR and The Living Room at Summerhill.

What began as a shared passion for food and a desire to give sustainability a stronger voice soon became something much more meaningful — a friendship.

Different kitchens, different approaches, but a common respect for nature, the ingredients we work with and the responsibility we carry as chefs.

Beyond the food and the fire, it was about people coming together, sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas and building relationships that extend far beyond the kitchen.

Here’s a little sneak peek into our collaboration.

Over the coming week, we’ll be sharing a two-part video series capturing the people, the food and the stories behind this special experience.

Stay tuned. There is more to this story than what happened on the plate

VUUR × The LivingRoom at Summerhill

Two restaurants. Two perspectives. One shared responsibility.

On 18 & 19 September, VUUR welcomes Johannes Richter and the team from The LivingRoom at Summerhill for the first chapter of a collaboration built around place, produce and sustainability.

For this opening chapter, our focus turns to venison — exploring one of South Africa’s most remarkable natural food resources and the role it can play in a more considered and sustainable way of cooking.

Together, we’ll explore the animal through different cuts, techniques and interpretations — bringing the philosophies of VUUR and The LivingRoom together around fire and the table.

This is more than a once-off meal.

This is a journey of two restaurants over two days!!!

At VUUR, we believe great food begins long before it reaches the fire.

It begins with the ingredient.
With understanding where it comes from.
And treating it with respect.

Then comes the craft — the hands, the heat, the patience.

Nothing rushed. Nothing unnecessary.

Just great produce, cooked with fire, and served with care.

VUUR. Fire. Simplicity. Connection. Care. The true meaning and pillars to VUUR Culture.

A table like this only happens once.

This Heritage Weekend, VUUR comes to the city. Chef Shaun Scrooby joins Executive Chef Wesli Jacobs at Heirloom, Cape Grace, A Fairmont Managed Hotel for a four-hands collaboration, two chefs, two ways of telling a South African story, one table.

Fire meets refinement. Instinct meets technique. A five-course menu, paired with wine, written once and served over two days.

It starts with the hands.

Not the fire. Not the plate.

The hands that season without measuring. The hands that have learnt through repetition, patience, and respect. Every movement is deliberate, every touch earned over years of practice.

As Marco Pierre White once said, “Cooking is a craft. I like to think of myself as a craftsman.”

At VUUR, we believe every dish is shaped long before it reaches the fire. It begins with the hands that prepare it, the minds that understand it, and the care that transforms simple ingredients into something worth sharing.

Because great cooking isn’t built on recipes.

It’s built on craftsmanship.

We love fire.

It isn’t a quick process. It’s time, patience, and respect. Fire can’t be rushed, and neither can great food. Every flame, every ember, every moment adds another layer of flavour and another chapter to the story we share around the table.

So what makes the perfect steak?

It starts long before it touches the fire.

Temper. Bring the meat to life.
Flame. Cook with instinct, not timers.
Char. Build flavour through fire, not burn.
Rest. Let patience finish what the flames began.

Simple. Honest. Fire-led.

That’s VUUR

What is it like dining at VUUR?

It’s a place where you feel at home.

A place where you share food, stories and moments with the people around you.

A place where you get closer to the fire, closer to the ingredients, and closer to the way we do things.

We cook in front of you. We share our stories with you. We welcome you into our world.

And somewhere between the fire, the food and the conversation, strangers become friends and a restaurant begins to feel a little more like home.

That is VUUR.

The days pass, but VUUR continues to create something special.

No two days are ever the same. The fire changes. The meat changes. The guests around our table change. Every service tells a different story.

What never changes is the essence of VUUR.

A home away from home. A place where the fires keep burning, conversations linger, and every guest is welcomed with genuine care.

Because while the flames may never burn the same way twice, the feeling they create always remains.

Make sure you reserve your seat at the social table at VUUR Goose Island or your table at VUUR Private by clicking on the link in our BIO, via the @dineplan or by writing us an email at info@vuurrestaurant.com

There is something special about returning to a place that feels familiar.

A place where the welcome is warm, the conversations are genuine, and for a few hours, you feel completely at home.

Yet every visit brings something new. New stories shared across the table. New friendships formed over a glass of wine. New memories created around the fire.

At VUUR, we believe hospitality is about more than food. It is about creating a space where strangers become friends, where time slows down, and where you leave feeling like you belong.

Come as a guest. Leave feeling like family.

Malaika introduces one of our newest desserts.

A decadent sweet creation that isn’t overly sweet — balancing dark chocolate, bright citrus, a touch of salinity, and rich rendered beef fat. Yes, beef fat.

At VUUR, we love exploring the space where fire, meat, and dessert meet. This latest dish is brought to life using the flambadou, allowing us to add layers of caramelisation, smoke, and richness in a way that only fire can.

Unexpected. Thought-provoking. Delicious.

Join us at VUUR and experience the dishes that make dining at VUUR unlike anywhere else!!!
