At VUUR, we believe great food begins long before it reaches the fire.

It begins with the ingredient.
With understanding where it comes from.
And treating it with respect.

Then comes the craft — the hands, the heat, the patience.

Nothing rushed. Nothing unnecessary.

Just great produce, cooked with fire, and served with care.

What an honour to have been part of World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurant list, having achieved #88 in 2024 and #87 in 2025 respectively.

When we started VUUR, we didn’t do this for rewards and recognition, it was about fire, quality produce and the diners that would come to eat at our restaurant.

What did we do in 2026?

VUUR x THE LIVING ROOM AT SUMMERHILL | PART THREE

When it all comes together.

From the conversations and ideas to the preparation, the fire and finally the plates arriving at the table.

Our four-hands collaboration with The Living Room at Summerhill was about more than bringing two kitchens together. It was about taking a shared philosophy and turning it into an experience.

Two restaurants with different identities, working side by side, learning from one another and finding a common rhythm through the language of food and fire.

Sustainability remained at the heart of what we wanted to achieve, with a focus on respecting our ingredients, celebrating the whole animal and making thoughtful choices in the way we cook.

But when service began, it was also about something equally important — the people around the table.

The energy of the kitchen, the attention to every plate, the conversations with our guests and the pleasure of sharing something we had created together.

What started as a collaboration became a friendship, and what we shared over that weekend is something we will carry forward.

Because in the end, great cooking is about more than food. It’s about connection.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to the incredible team at The Living Room at Summerhill for making this such a memorable experience.

Until we cook together again. taken in VUUR by @vuurrestaurant

We look back on a wonderful collaboration between two very different restaurants — VUUR and The Living Room at Summerhill.

What began as a shared passion for food and a desire to give sustainability a stronger voice soon became something much more meaningful — a friendship.

Different kitchens, different approaches, but a common respect for nature, the ingredients we work with and the responsibility we carry as chefs.

Beyond the food and the fire, it was about people coming together, sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas and building relationships that extend far beyond the kitchen.

Here’s a little sneak peek into our collaboration.

Over the coming week, we’ll be sharing a two-part video series capturing the people, the food and the stories behind this special experience.

Stay tuned. There is more to this story than what happened on the plate taken in VUUR by @vuurrestaurant

South African food is a rather broad category, and this one-off collaboration was a pretty spectacular reminder of why.

Chef Shaun Scrooby of VUUR joined Heirloom’s Wesli Jacobs at Cape Grace for a five-course celebration of our incredible produce, heritage recipes and the many ways we’ve learnt to cook them. From West Coast seafood to fire-cooked steak, every course brought a different part of our rainbow nation to the table.

Alongside the amazing food were some fantastic pairings of wine, unique cocktails and, of course, roosterkoek for Adrian. It’s time to accept I am third in his priorities after rugby and bread.

With four hands, two mouths and a one of a kind menu, we felt extremely proud to be South African (visa pending).

VUUR × The LivingRoom at Summerhill

Two restaurants. Two perspectives. One shared responsibility.

On 18 & 19 September, VUUR welcomes Johannes Richter and the team from The LivingRoom at Summerhill for the first chapter of a collaboration built around place, produce and sustainability.

For this opening chapter, our focus turns to venison — exploring one of South Africa’s most remarkable natural food resources and the role it can play in a more considered and sustainable way of cooking.

Together, we’ll explore the animal through different cuts, techniques and interpretations — bringing the philosophies of VUUR and The LivingRoom together around fire and the table.

This is more than a once-off meal.

This is a journey of two restaurants over two days!!!

Fire meets refinement.

This Heritage Weekend, Heirloom at Cape Grace welcomes Chef Shaun Scrooby and the @Vuurrestaurant team to the kitchen.

South African cooking was never one story. It’s coastal and inland, archival and innovative, memory and instinct — told in as many voices as there are hands that cook it. This collaboration brings two of those voices together, shaped by different soil and different fire, but anchored in the same passion for South African heritage flavours.

VUUR’s provenance-led, fire-driven cooking meets Chef Wesli’s refined expression of South African cuisine, on a five-course menu paired with brilliant local wines — celebrating the traditions we share and the many ways we tell our stories.

25 and 26 September. Lunch and dinner.

Reserve your seat at the link in bio.

We expected the steak to be phenomenal but what we couldn’t have predicted was the warmth emanating from all corners of the room NOT on fire. Captivating stories and a passion for cooking lit up the room with immense enthusiasm and we knew we were in for a treat.

Surrounded by strangers who soon became friends, and the smoky aromas of meat that has not only had care taken in its cooking, but in its life. Shaun’s incredible care for quality in his food and connections were a wonder to behold. Imagine a braai at your friend’s house except everything is on time, he remembers your favourite dishes and…there’s zebras roaming around in the garden.

It’s clear to see why awards are flooding through Vuur’s doors along with groups of devoted people who love it as much as we did.

Built by Fire. The VUUR Story.

Some restaurants are built on big budgets.
Others are built on belief.

VUUR @vuurrestaurant by @shaunscroobychef in Stellenbosch belongs to the second category.

What chef-owner Shaun Scrooby has created in just a few years time is one of the most inspiring success stories in the world of steak-centric dining: a restaurant that started with humble beginnings and has grown into the No. 52 of the World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants.

Today, VUUR stands as the best steak-centric dining experience on the African continent - set on the beautiful Remhoogte Wine Estate outside Stellenbosch in the Cape Winelands, where fire, provenance, South African produce and Shaun’s deeply personal cooking style come together in a dining experience like no other.

Shaun has also already been part of The Rare Tour, bringing his craft and point of view to one of the most successful dining experience formats in the world of steak restaurants.

This is not a story of shortcuts.
It is a story of patience, craft and conviction.

From Stellenbosch, South Africa to the global stage, VUUR shows what can happen when a chef stays true to his own path and builds something with purpose, one service at a time.

Congratulations again to Shaun Scrooby and the entire VUUR team on a journey that is only just beginning.
