Big news for independent restaurants! Reps Susie Lee (D-NV) and John McGuire (R-VA) just introduced the bipartisan PROTECT Act, a bill to stop third-party delivery apps from selling restaurants’ food without their permission. If passed, the bill would: - Prohibit delivery platforms from arranging orders from a vendor without a partnership agreement - Require platforms to remove unauthorized listings within 10 calendar days of the vendor’s notification - Strengthen the FTC’s ability to act by classifying unauthorized listings as “unfair or deceptive acts” Here’s how you can help: Call 202-224-3121 and ask your member of Congress to sponsor this bill. 🧡Help the House Gala 9.27.26🩵 A week ago I was fortunate enough to participate in my 3rd @helpthehousefoundation Gala. This event is so heartwarming to all of us, bringing so much talent together only to give back to the very industry we serve! Taking a behind the scenes role this year, I was able to work with some of my favorite Minneapolis chefs making sure all the details came together. It was a pleasure to work with and watch so many industry professionals cooking, creating and most importantly giving back to our industry! A huge thank you to @mother_of_aprons and @emmalenebean for bringing us all together. For creating an outlet for those that might need a life line, a support system that eases some of life’s pressures. As chefs we all love to cook and create amazing food; but the people are who bring us together, and the people are the ones we need to protect. What happens to a restaurant's payroll when health costs double? Milwaukee chef Dan Jacobs says he found out in January. When the extended benefits went away, he lost his executive chefs, his director of operations, his general managers — people he says are very hard to replace. Their costs doubled or tripled, and they took corporate jobs that came with coverage. He owns Dan Dan and EsterEv, employs about 75 people, and puts roughly $7,000 a month toward helping cover their insurance. It still wasn't enough to compete with a company that can offer a plan.
