It’s always have a great time talking about @ncrlachefshowdown events with our good friend @wralkensmith and this week was no exception.

Our own @heidibillotto and @allenmthomas I were on air in Raleigh on Tues July 21 to talk about the semifinal regional rounds of this year’s NCRLA Chef Showdown, sponsorsed in part by @gottobenc this is North Carolina’ s largest culinary and mixology competition, now in its 10th season.

As of July 2026, We’ve already completed five different rounds of preliminary culinary competition and two mixology preliminary rounds.

Mid July finds us in the middle of the regional semifinal rounds to determine the 15 chefs and 5 pastry chefs who will advance to the Sept 2 Grand Finale.

Then in August our 12 teams of Mixology semifinalist will compete in their own two rounds of regional competition to determine the 6 teams to advance to the Grand Finale.

The NCRLA Chef Showdown Grand Finale is the only NCRLA Chef Showdown event open to the public.

It all happens on Sept 2, 2026 at Bay 7 at the American Tobacco Campus in Durham NC

You get to taste the competition dishes and desserts, cocktails and zero-proof cocktails and vote for your People’s Choice Favorites.

Alright my local lovers, year two, night one of The Passion series at The Hackney is complete. The Passion is an annual week long event held by The Hackney, hosting decorated chefs to create a coursed dinner highlighting North Carolinas diverse seafood and local produce. Each night a portion of the proceeds are donated to both @nccatch and @beardfoundation. Chef Jamie is incredibly talented, knowledgeable, hospitable, and the list goes on and on; what I think are arguably some of his best qualities though are his ability to connect people, and taking everything he knows and sharing it with others. A huge focus of this year’s passion is taking seasoned chefs and pairing them with younger chefs. For night one, they started off with a bang with the amazing home chef Jamie Davis hosting chef Steven Devereaux-Green (Executive Chef of Herons the Umstead, Cary, NC) and chef Taylor Halley (Executive Chef of The Wine Feed, Durham, NC). These three truly crafted a menu of stunning, and extremely delicious, dishes. Each one was presented with an abundance of intricate details painting a beautiful picture on the plate, and carefully curated ingredients that blended perfectly to create an explosion of flavor in every bite. I was so blown away, and truly in awe the entire night. Aside from the coursed dinner, the passion nights have the added depth of introducing the community of seafood purveyors, farmers, and other local businesses that bring it all together. I’m truly thankful to have experienced night one, and will continue to look forward to this event every year. This years line up is truly a masterpiece, hence why it sold out so quick, so for those attending the remainder of nights I hope you enjoy! For those who were unable to secure tickets year, there is always next year!

I'm so incredibly proud of everything you're achieving and all the dreams you're pursuing. Watching you at The Chef Showdown was just another reminder of how lucky we are to have you. The way you love our family, stand by me, and show up for our community never goes unnoticed.
