I’m humbled and honored to be part of this year’s @dccentralkitchen #CapitalFoodFight. Shout out to Chef @cheplifesimon for being the best side kick and passionfruit expert. Couldn’t have done it without you. Winning was a small part of what made this day so memorable. Thank you to the hosts, judges, and my fellow chef competitors for making me sweat and keeping me inspired. I wanted to represent Filipinos 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭 on this stage and hope I did y’all proud!

There's a piece in the @washingtonpost in The Critique titled, "The president is golfing and exercising White male privilege" by @robingivhan. It is a searing condemnation of 45 but also points out a societal problem that badly needs to be addressed. The whole piece is well worth a read but the paragraphs below bear repeating multiple times:

"It’s a classic metaphor for privilege and disregard — and sometimes establishment ineptness — and one that is also terribly apt for Trump. While a pandemic rages across the country, the president works on his swing. While images of unemployed Americans in seemingly endless food lines sear painful scars into our national psyche, the president is a man at leisure, rolling across the lush, manicured greenery of his private playground while his supporters cheer him on from outside the secure perimeter — and his critics protest.

In truth, Trump doesn’t even look like he’s having a particularly good time golfing. He simply appears to be avoiding the dreadfulness of his responsibilities. Such is his privilege.

In these long days since Joe Biden became president-elect, Trump’s refusal to concede or at least stop obstructing a peaceful transition of power can be described as many things — delusional, childish, unpatriotic, dangerous — but above all else it has been a tremendous display of the deference afforded to this man. As a man, who also happens to be White and wealthy, he has been able to muster the breathless support of both men and women — from Rudolph W. Giuliani in Pennsylvania court to Kayleigh McEnany in a full-throated media assault — because he lays claim to the benefit of the doubt even where there isn’t even a shadow of it."

This dish is a play on Thomad Keller's famous @perseny dish and Nihao served it during a pop up dinner at the Woodmoor Supper Club. There is a ton of talent cooking in this kitchen and being named as one of @esquire magazine's 2020 best new restaurants, by @thegordinier and @sintumuang, is well deserved. Bravo.

I'm curious. Does anyone think this election is in the bag for @joebiden and @thedemocrats? 45 has clearly proven that he has an active 40% (JFC!) base who will come out and vote. Historically, it is very difficult to vote out an incumbent President regardless of how incompetent they may seem. After all, Bush II/43 served two terms after winning the electoral college and losing the popular vote (sound familiar) in 2000. Forget the polls, this election is frighteningly close and even if Biden ekes out a win, the Republicans will not cede power easily especially since they control the courts. Vote for Biden- Harris and if you've already voted, help get out the vote in places like PA, MI, WI, FL, TX, AZ and GA.

I'm actually not sure if this the name (help @pichetong) but it's a matcha crepe cake and it is delicious. The savoriness of Nihao is unquestionable but don't sleep on the dessert game at Nihao as the talent runs deep behind the world found Pichet Ong. @minzense has done a guest stint and @jhdiep has been a Baltimore dessert gem for years. Get some.
