I was going to make a post about how this was our celebratory dinner, commemorating @amazinglyalix job promotion. But instead I want to acknowledge the people at @thedesertspoon281 for making this such a great evening! I put in the reservation notes that we were celebrating, and multiple people came to congratulate Alix. Then, there’s the food - for which I don’t have enough words. Alix said she could taste our culture in every plate. Right before she said that I was thinking how this felt like I could be sitting in a field with my ancestors, tasting the ingredients they just gathered that day. And how I could hear stories that have yet to be told by the generations after us. I time traveled during this meal; I felt the love from the staff; I got to share it with the girl I chased to DC, and back. Thank you to everyone at Desert Spoon, and thank you to @cheftatuherrera for taking care of our people with Folklores, and progressing our culture forward, one act of love at a time!

☕️ Coffee of the Day: Silhouette Coffee, 2810 N. Flores St. One of my favorite parts of this coffee journey is getting to know the people behind the bar. Today I had the chance to ask owner Gabe Cardenas, “If someone is brand new to coffee, what would you recommend?” His answer started with, “Hot or cold?” Then he shared that he usually leans toward a sweeter coffee for someone’s first experience and recommended a vanilla latte with oat milk. It had a beautiful balance and was the perfect introduction. Today’s coffee guest was my handsome meathead, Tatu, who kept it classic with a Coke and an espresso. 😂 Shop local.
