Stopped by Chellas Arepa Kitchen before we hit camp (and Forry’s Drive In), and the food was so good we knew we had to walk it off after setting up camp. The portions were huge and we could’ve shared one order. Arepa, platter, yuca fries, plantains, the free samples of soups…. All delicious. Could’ve taken a nap right after if we didn’t have to drive further.

One of Lancaster’s best small restaurants!

@chellaslancaster started in 2018, inspired by the South American flavors brothers Luis and Diego Quiroz grew up with and named after their grandmother, “Chella.”

What started as a small local spot has grown into one of Lancaster’s most talked-about restaurants — even earning the #5 spot on Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S. for 2025.

The menu is 100% gluten-free, with arepas, rice bowls, plantains, grilled meats and plenty of fresh, healthier options, including vegetarian and vegan choices.

You can now find Chellas at two Lancaster locations — their original location at 1830 Hempstead Road near Costco, or their newer restaurant at 325 N. Queen Street in Downtown Lancaster.

Chellas Arepa Kitchen is one of those Lancaster spots that has grown from a local favorite into something much bigger.

Founded in 2018 by brothers Luis and Diego Quiroz, Chellas started as a food stand inspired by their grandmother “Chella” and the South American food they grew up eating.

Today, they have two Lancaster locations — their original spot at 1830 Hempstead Road near Costco and their newer Downtown Lancaster restaurant at 325 N. Queen Street.

Everything on the menu is 100% gluten-free, with a great mix of arepas, rice bowls, plantains, grilled meats and plenty of vegetarian and vegan options too.

And after being ranked #5 on Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S. for 2025, it’s safe to say Lancaster knows how to do lunch.
