Undergraduate researcher, Kessler Hackenberger, presented his work titled, “Expanding Anion Relay Chemistry,” at the University of Kansas STEM REU Poster Symposium. In the session, he was able to highlight all of the exceptional work he did with our group during his time here in Kansas.

Kessler is a member of the 2026 Summer REU cohort at the University of Kansas. Funded by the National Science Foundation, the REU program consists of up to 6 weeks of in person research where students develop scientific communication through both oral and poster presentations, receive training in ethical research conduct, learn about sustainable chemistry, and gain insight into the graduate school application process.

Great work Kessler!! 🎉

As the new academic year approaches, we are excited to start meeting prospective researchers! We'll be hosting an event in collaboration with CURF to introduce students to the many research opportunities on campus. The event will provide:
- A brief informational presentation from CURF to introduce students to campus-wide research training and financial awards.
- Speeches from current undergraduate researchers about finding a mentor, developing research interests, and applying for awards and fellowships.
- Networking with professors, graduate students, and undergraduate students conducting research in a wide array of fields across campus.

Students from all disciplines are encouraged to come! Please reach out to us via DM or GroupMe with questions.

New students and current undergraduate researchers can RSVP here or at the link in our bio: https://forms.office.com/r/mCHwGGaiid

Huge congrats to our very own, Peace Adelowokan, for winning second place in the Materials and Characterization art competition! 🏆 As a part of this competition, artists had to design an image related to their research and later explain the research to judges in under 60 seconds. Peace’s art as well as the other artwork submissions will stay displayed in the hallway right outside of the Materials and Characterization lab in the basement of Gray Little Hall.🎉

Great mentoring doesn’t happen in isolation — it happens in community.

If you work with undergraduate research students, we invite you to join the Mentoring for Success Learning Community this spring for lunch + discussion on mentoring practices.

Let’s share experiences, strengthen our impact, and support the next generation of researchers.

RSVP via the link in our bio (two days prior).

❗Success Spotlight ❗

Check out what one of our amazing Honors Academy grads is up to! Sophie Juliana is currently tackling her first year as a Chemistry PhD student at the University of Kansas.

What does a PhD life look like? Conducting vital research on neurodegenerative diseases, teaching two lab sections of General Chemistry II, and balancing high-level grad courses!

The secret to juggling it all? The foundation built right here at Lindenwood. Sophie credits Lindenwood University’s Honors Academy for providing the #PowerSkills needed to take on challenges and engage in high-level academic discourse.

Juliana says, "The Honors Academy helped me develop confidence in my ability to take on challenging courses. The conversations I had with Honors students taught me how to have academic conversations that challenged my thinking in the best way possible."

We love seeing our Honors students grow from curious undergraduates into the next generation of scientists and educators. Keep up the incredible work, Sophie!
