We had an amazing week full of masterclasses taught by Black Label Movement company members Shannon & Cheng, and director Carl Flink. We were so excited to be able to share the space with them in classes and learn from them!

A PSA to the Minnesota dance theater community:
Did you know that @cheng_chain_chain and I are two entirely different people?! I have been mistaken for him too many times that it warrants a post 🤣

Yes, I *suppoooose* we are both short Asian people, we both come from breaking backgrounds, and we both utilize it to varying degrees in theater and performance art. 🙄 But if you’re ever not sure, just ask for our names—don’t be that person that thinks we all look alike lol

All jokes aside, congratulations to my dude for not only performing a great solo work yesterday, but for overcoming a major injury from two years ago and bouncing back like nothing happened! 🎉👏

Don’t miss “This Bleeding Heart…” this weekend as a part of Fall Forward Festival.

Black Label Movement is honored to headline at Fall Forward Festival this week at the Luminary. This Bleeding Heart — which originally premiered in 2005 as BLaM's inaugural work — returns to the stage with an incredible cast. Don't miss this rare chance to see Carl Flink’s earliest work — a piece that set the tone for the next years of Black Label Movement.

Grateful for this group and an opportunity that allowed for spiritual recalibration amidst nature and unforgettable architecture at Taliesin ✨ I’m very behind on many other things from this year I wish to share (and have all the things to share that will happen soon in august) but for now feeling especially thankful for this tour with Black Label Movement @blacklabelmovement_ counting myself lucky to be a part of this, and hitting the ground running as we all race into August 🌺

Snippets from two duets that we are performing next week at Taliesin in Spring Green, WI.

Black Label classic “Duet for Wreck” is a celebrated, physically intense contemporary dance piece choreographed by Carl Flink in 2007. It is a standalone performance or part of his larger production Wreck, which draws thematic inspiration from the tragic sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

“Work Song” is a new creation specifically made for the performance at Taliesin. Created to an original composition by Eric Mayson (heard here!!!). This duet draws on themes of Frank Lloyd Wrights poem highlighting his passion and authenticity in life.

Don’t miss your chance to watch both of these duets live NEXT WEEK! Ticket link in our bio.

Congratulations to all the McKnight Fellows this year!

I’m honored and grateful to have had the opportunity to be one of the dance panelists this year. I was amazed by the wide range of dance forms in this community and grateful for the opportunity to get to know all of the applicants. I also had the chance to see many live performances, and the entire process was such a meaningful learning experience alongside the other panelists.
