Some moments bring everything full circle. This coronation was one of them. 🦅👑 Mykenzi & Malachi, I met you both during your freshman year, and watching you grow into the leaders you are today has been such a privilege. From serving on the Royal Court consecutively since your sophomore year to now standing as Miss and Mister NCCU—you’ve given me so much to be proud of. Beyond the crowns, I’m proud of the people you’ve become. Helping bring your vision to life alongside your Chief of Staff and our SEAL team made this night even more meaningful. There’s something beautiful about seeing what began as an idea become a moment you’ll carry for the rest of your lives. Thank you for trusting me with it. To every organization queen and king who showed up: I’m proud of you, too. You carry the pride of your organizations and represent this phenomenal university. Seeing so many of my students step into that responsibility with confidence reminded me why this work means so much to me. And as a former Mister NCCU, standing alongside other kings was a reminder that we’re all part of a legacy bigger than our individual reigns. I’m grateful to have worn the crown and to now help pour into those carrying that legacy forward. Mykenzi & Malachi, I hope you felt celebrated, supported, and loved. Y’all made me proud long before this night. This was just another beautiful reason. Since attending the Leadership Kings & Queens Conference this summer with Malachi and Kenzi, she has held me accountable by coining “Mr. J we carry the crown, you the advisor carry the culture” I’m so blessed to work with this special group.❤️🦅 . . . . #NCCU #eaglepride #amplified #SOAR #hbcupride Me and my mentee, always proud!👑 4Peat The Queen! 3peat!👑 Mister and Miss Freshmen👑 Mister and Miss Sophomore 👑 Mister and Miss Junior👑 Mister and Miss Senior 👑 Proud advisors and Pham 👑 Former Mister NCCU’s x ΓΒ Me and my mentees👑 The gang👑 Everything we do! HBCU Kings and Queens carry more than a title. They carry the culture, the history, and the pride of their entire campus every time they step onto the yard. That is why we at Watch The Yard are launching a new series dedicated to introducing you to the leaders wearing the crown this year, continuing with North Carolina Central University. Mister North Carolina Central University Malachi Griddine is a senior Public Relations major with a minor in Business Administration from Fayetteville, North Carolina, and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., initiated in Spring 2024. The 84th Miss North Carolina Central University Mykenzi Davis-Cowart is a senior Biomedical Science major from St. Petersburg, Florida, and a soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., initiated in Spring 2024. Together, Griddine (@chi2raw ) and Davis-Cowart (@kenzi.kayy_ ) represent NCCU’s Eagle Nation with a shared commitment to service and preparation. Watch The Yard put out an open call to HBCU Kings and Queens across the country and we were able to interview Griddine and Davis-Cowart about their reign. Click on the link in our bio(@watchtheyard) to read the full article about them.

Rain or shine, that Eagle Pride is gonna show every time! 🦅❤️ The Aggie-Eagle Classic was a SUCCESS! Shout to my guys, Trey and Nasim! I’m beyond proud of y’all, not just for how you show up on the field, but for the young men you continue to become off the field. It’s always bigger than football. Love 4L! There’s nothing like being an EAGLE! 🦅 #AggieEagleClassic #EaglePride #NCCU Shoutout to Malachi, suited up in his Mister NCCU regalia, I’m so proud of this dude! From serving on the Royal Court his freshman, sophomore, and junior years to now representing our university as the 27th Mister NCCU, he has continued to show up and go after everything he wants. As the 19th Mister NCCU, having the opportunity to serve as his mentor and advisor makes this a true full-circle moment for me. Proud is an understatement! Keep making your mark, Malachi! Three generations of Mister NCCU in one picture: the 19th, 24th, and 27th. 👑🦅 Malachi began his Royal Court journey as Mister Freshman while Gabriel was serving as the Mister NCCU, and now Malachi is carrying the legacy forward as the 27th. Proud of both of my mentees and the men they’ve become. This picture represents legacy, mentorship, and what it means to keep reaching back while moving forward! (Let that sit with ya, if ya will) Mister NCCU legacy: Omari, me, and Malachi. 👑🦅 Omari served as Mister NCCU during my freshman year. It was great seeing Omari back on campus, pouring back into the same community that helped shape us. Different eras, same Eagle pride, and a legacy that continues! My boy Rob!! I’m proud of how much he has grown, stepped outside of his shell, and found his place working with the football team. Watching my these young men gain confidence, stepping outside their comfort zones, and create their own paths will always be one of the most rewarding parts of what I do! As my mentor says life is better connected 🦅❤️ My guy!!! Jahaun! My dawg has been putting in work with the football team, and I’m proud of him too. An example of not just talking the talk but walking the walk! Keep showing up and doing your thing, young king! 🦅🤞🏾 Miss NCCU Mykenzi and Mister NCCU Malachi! 👑🦅 So proud o
