Happy Heavenly Birthday, Julian. Today I release “Backbone (Isaiah 41:10)” in your memory. A song born from love, loss, faith, and the feeling that even though I can’t see you, hug you, call you, or hear your voice anymore, I still feel you with me.

These three brothers in this picture represent more than a memory. They represent love, strength, family, and a bond that death could never break.

After attending Just Be(loved)’s Team Homecoming Feature & Open Mic tonight, swing over to the @jamaicaplainporchfest tomorrow, August 22, for a Just Be(loved) curated event!

We’re going head-to-head with the Verbal Slap Slam Team, and it’s something you won’t want to miss.

The show starts at 4:00 PM, and we’ll be on the Lit/Poetry Porch at Ula Café, 284 Amory St, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.

Established in 2014, Jamaica Plain Porchfest is a community-run festival with an expansive understanding and appreciation of the arts. Each year, the festival brings neighbors and artists together for a wide array of performances, including music, storytelling, dance, poetry, and more.

@thelegendaryblackice was the reason I decided to become a spoken word artist at age 17. I had the honor to meet him when M’Reld brought him to Chicago years ago. I got to call him “friend” and “brother” in a sincere manner. The greatest storyteller and comic that wasn’t known for comedy. He shared an ongoing joke with me about multi-level marketing and pyramid scheme companies that he referred to as “the money church” 🤣. The love and reverence you had for your father, the stories about borrowing his leather coat. I was able to bring you to Chicago, you got me booked on gigs (you didn’t have to). You showed me love and went out of your way to give me guidance and share your techniques with me. You sat in my living room in Maywood and got to meet my mother and my father before he passed. Rest in heaven, brother Ice. The day I heard you on the @myfabolouslife intro, I decided not only would I be a poet, but that I would name myself “Real T@lk”. - to @lamarmansonj @lamarmansonj, my prayers are with you. Thankyou for being kind and hospitable to me when I met you in Hampton, GA. To @khemist_lv, much love and light to you and the Philly hometown family and extended family. - To @alldefpoetry please run his poems on a marathon for at least a week.
