🎙On my latest podcast I chatted with Alex Kopelman about helping children remain their authentic selves in today's world.

Alex's book, "For Real: Helping Children Remain Their Authentic Selves In A Limiting World", focuses on how our children are born with an authentic self that gets socialized out of them. Through messages they hear from parents, classrooms, culture and beyond, children start to hide parts of themselves as a way to belong and survive. However, Alex also states that the change needs to begin with parents, or at least in a parallel process of dropping many of the “oughts and shoulds” of parenthood too. Listen in to learn more about the distinction he makes between just allowing a child to run wild and undisciplined versus encouraging them to be authentic while also learning how to get along with others.

In this amazing conversation with Alex Kopelman, on the Love and Compassion Podcast with Gissele, we chat about how authenticity can help us be more accepting of others. We talk about how we have been programmed to conform rather than be authentically ourselves, and how belonging and authenticity can complement one another, and how learning to regulate ourselves during difficult moments can help us achieve true inner feelings of safety. #podcast #bereal #authenticity

My dear friend and former @childrensartsguild @childrensartsguild Board member Joyce Roché joined me at the @brooksrunning Invest in Yourself 5K during the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting weekend. Our two-person Authenticity Works team finished with a respectable time, and we had a great time.

“An eight-year-old is busy being the best eight-year-old he can be.”

That insight from Alexander Kopelman @childrensartsguild is powerful.

Too often, adults speak to children as if their job is to become older, faster.
But Alexander makes the point clearly:
that is not their job.

Children need room to be where they are.
To grow at the pace their lives have shaped.
To be seen for who they are right now, not only for who adults want them to become.

And in a post-pandemic world, that matters even more.
If expectations have changed, then our norms have to change too.

Because when we slow down and meet children where they are, we do not just manage behavior.
We create space for children to thrive as whole human beings.

Alexander Kopelman, founding president and CEO of Children’s Arts Guild, joined me for an honest, thoughtful conversation about authenticity, emotional safety, and what it means to support children as whole human beings instead of rushing them toward someone else’s timeline. Powerful conversation 🙏

“We encourage students to own their own stories, to feel that they are the main characters,” shares Alexander Kopelman, founder and president of the Children’s Arts Guild.

We couldn’t agree more!

What a magical evening to remember! Last week, we hosted our inaugural Page Two Author Salon in New York City and were beyond thrilled to bring the brilliant minds of our community together—in the spirit of fostering connection and collaboration. We are so thankful to our authors and friends who attended the event and made the evening so memorable for all of us. Swipe to see all the smiles!

“I didn’t know exactly what to expect from tonight, but I certainly didn’t anticipate the warmth, support, and generosity of spirit that filled the room. It’s clear that Page Two is highly intentional not just about the books they publish, but about the authors they bring into their fold—ensuring that each one leads with heart. ❤️ And as I looked around the room, I realized: the next great literary voices were here. One day, I’ll look back at this moment and say, I was there, in the mix, when it all began.” Amy Summers (@amysummersnyc), Page Two author

Our new Salon Series is designed to bring the Page Two community together to share ideas and inspiration, and we’re excited to announce that there will be more to come! Be sure to keep an eye out for news of future Salons in your city 👀
