Late afternoon was the perfect time to enjoy the beauty of winter blooms at the historic Roche Harbor Resort. Hellebores and snowdrops were taking center stage but crocuses, daffodils and daphnes weren't far behind. And the sun was out!

I love the energy and excitement of this island hotspot in the summer but there's something so appealing about the quiet atmosphere of the off season. Always a great place to explore when I'm spending a few days on the island visiting my mom.

The last photo was taken at Benaroya Hall on Friday night. When I heard that Chip @chipsgardens (a talented gardener and world class oboist) would be playing in the Seattle Chamber Music Society's performance of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, I knew I couldn't pass it up. Meeting Instagram gardening friends in real life is the best! 💚

When I bought my house, I inherited a yard and garden that was once certainly beautiful in its day. Mrs. Lucia — the lady of the house for 70 years — was a gardener. But for the last several years (+), she couldn’t care for it like she once did. It was a bit of a mess when I first saw it (video 1). I’ve been working on cleaning it up (and enlisting great help!) to bring it back to life. I wanted to see what bloomed this spring and summer and work on getting rid of some of the invasive plants (hello, wisteria and English ivy). This is a never-ending chore! Video 2 shows it today.

But now, I’m getting excited because it’s time to start adding more plants and bringing it back to glory. I’ve found ton of inspiration on the ‘gram, and I’ve added a few inspiration photos from @thepsychgarden, @chipsgardens, @atldirt and @old_castle_cottage that I love. I’m excited to get to work!

I recently painted a commissioned portrait for my wonderful uncles @chipsgardens and @ptown_06. The portrait is of Dr. S.F. Monestime, the first black mayor of a municipality Canada (Mattawa).

It was a lovely experience to get to paint a portrait as I hadn’t in many years. The painting is acrylic on wood panel.
