🇮🇪 DUBLIN MARATHON DAY! 🏃‍♂️

There’s something special about running through the streets of Dublin. The crowds, the atmosphere, the encouragement from complete strangers. And, of course, that feeling when you finally cross the finish line.

I’ve run 16 marathons, including 6 Dublin Marathons, and it’s still one of my favourite races.

Having experienced it as a runner, and now spending much of my professional life working with athletes as a sports chiropractor, there are a few things I’d share with anyone lining up today.

👟 Start easy. The excitement can carry you away in those opening miles. Don’t let it.

⚡ Stick to your fuelling plan. Race day isn’t the time to experiment.

⏱️ Run your own race. Someone else’s pace isn’t necessarily yours.

💪 Stay relaxed. Keep your shoulders loose, settle into your rhythm and trust the training you’ve done.

💚 Enjoy it. The Dublin crowds are something else. Soak up the atmosphere, especially when the miles start getting tough.

And remember, whether you’re chasing a personal best or simply hoping to cross that finish line, getting to the start is an achievement in itself.

One last piece of advice: Don’t spend the first half proving how fit you are and the second half wishing you’d slowed down! 😂

Best of luck to everyone running today. Enjoy every mile, and give those crowds something to cheer about! 🇮🇪

Sláinte agus go n-éirí an bóthar leat! ☘️

POV: you invite sports chiropractors to a Backyard Ultra… and suddenly every niggle becomes a full assessment 😂

This weekend with Nexus HealthHub wasn’t about just “giving runners a massage.”

We were there to assess, understand what was limiting each athlete, manage pain and injury where appropriate, and help them make better decisions about whether and how to keep moving.

From hands-on treatment and clinical assessment to laser therapy, recovery support and nutritional input with CISN, the aim was simple: bring a proper sports medicine approach into the ultra environment.

Because when athletes are pushing their bodies hour after hour, recovery needs to be more than a quick rub-down.

🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️ Nexus HealthHub x Backyard Ultra Lake District

📍 Based in Wetherby, West Yorkshire
💻 Online rehabilitation programmes available

This weekend we had the privilege of supporting the first Backyard Ultra in the Lake District.

But here’s the thing…

We’re not just massage therapy.
We’re building the future of rehabilitation.

When an athlete or anyone struggling with pain or injury comes to see us, we want to understand more than just where it hurts.

🔍 What are we actually dealing with?
We assess the injury, understand how it happened and identify whether anything needs further medical investigation.

🧠 What could be contributing to the problem or limiting recovery?
We look at movement, strength, loading, training demands, lifestyle, recovery and the wider factors that may be influencing the problem.

📊 What needs to change?
From there, we build a personalised rehabilitation programme around the individual, not simply the diagnosis.

Then we integrate:

Clinical expertise.
Objective assessment.
Progressive rehabilitation.
Recovery technology.
Personalised care.

And because recovery is about more than treatment and exercise, we also collaborate with Ian Craig and the Centre for Integrative Sports Nutrition (CISN) to support the nutritional side of recovery, performance and long term health.

That means we can look at the bigger picture, not just the injury itself, but also the factors that can influence how well someone recovers and performs.

Technology doesn’t replace good clinical judgement.

It gives us more tools to assess, treat, measure progress and guide rehabilitation more intelligently.

Whether you’re an athlete trying to return to performance or simply someone who wants to move better and live with less pain…

Nexus HealthHub. Where clinical expertise, technology, rehabilitation and nutrition come together.

As the Commonwealth Games have ende, I’ve found myself looking back at one of the highlights of my career.

A few years ago, I had the privilege of being one of only a small number of chiropractors working in the multidisciplinary medical centre at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

For those few weeks, our team looked after athletes from across the Commonwealth. Different countries. Different sports. One shared goal: helping them perform at their best.

People often ask what separates elite athletes from everyone else.

It’s easy to think it’s talent.

Working at the Games taught me it was something much simpler.

The very best athletes don’t just train hard. They recover well. They pay attention to the small things. They ask for help early. They respect the process, even when nobody is watching.

I also came away with another reminder.

High performance is never built by one person.

Every athlete who walked into the Polyclinic was supported by an incredible team of doctors, physiotherapists, chiropractors, sports therapists, strength coaches and many others, all working together behind the scenes.

That’s something I carry into my clinic every day.

Most of my patients aren’t chasing Commonwealth medals.

They’re chasing a pain-free run, a weekend of golf, lifting their children without discomfort, or simply feeling like themselves again.

The principles are exactly the same.

Look after your body before it forces you to.

I’m incredibly grateful to have been part of such an amazing team, and watching the Games again reminds me what a privilege it was.

⸻

What you see on the podium is only a few minutes.

What gets an athlete there happens long before the starting gun.

Just ONE bone. That’s all it takes. 🦴

This is a single vertebra, one of 24 in your spine. See the two bits sticking out either side? That’s where your muscles attach, and right beside them, your nerves exit your spinal cord.

When one of these gets stuck, it doesn’t stay quiet. It pulls on everything attached to it and can send pain somewhere completely different from where the actual problem is.

Thinking about Chiropractic? Save this. You may want to reference it later 👊🏾🧡✌🏾

There are weekends that leave you physically tired.

Then there are weekends that stay with you long after you’ve unpacked your bag.

Last weekend I had the privilege of speaking at BCA Chiro Climb 2026, delivering a workshop on shoulder assessment and movement, followed by a keynote called The Weight You Carry.

The workshop was about clinical reasoning.

The keynote was about something much more personal.

It came from conversations I’ve had over the years with clinicians who quietly question themselves after a difficult case. The email that sits in your mind. The patient you can’t stop thinking about. The responsibility that somehow follows you home.

For a long time, I thought those feelings were something you were supposed to keep to yourself.

Standing in that room, I realised they weren’t mine alone.

Afterwards, so many people came over to share their own stories. Different careers. Different experiences. The same emotions.

That reminded me that behind every title, every qualification and every clinic door is simply another human being doing their best to help someone else.

If this talk achieved one thing, I hope it made a few people feel a little less alone.

Thank you to everyone who came to the workshop, listened, asked questions and shared your own experiences.

And to everyone who climbed Snowdon alongside us…

Sometimes the conversations on the way down are every bit as valuable as reaching the summit.
