🍋 Elderflower & lemon iced buns 🍋 🍋 Lemon-infused dough 🌸 Elderflower cordial soak 🍃 Elderflower icing 🪻 Dried cornflowers I made these iced buns both for this week’s @sundayafternoonbakingclub theme of ’elderflower’, and also to take to the SABC picnic yesterday! (Swipe to see photos of the full spread: it was *insane*.) Unfortunately, it was so hot that the icing melted clean off my bread and so they ended up looking pretty ugly. I promise they looked nice when I made them! I had photographic evidence! Although these buns looked really pretty decorated with flowers, I actually found the flavour disappointing and I couldn't detect the elderflower at all. There's elderflower cordial in the dough, soaked into the bread after baking and mixed into the icing – but I still couldn’t taste it! The bread was also quite dense and doughy in my opinion, but that might be because I added a cold proof to make the schedule easier for myself and I might have messed it up a bit :/ Despite all these shortfalls, I had an amazing time hanging out with my fellow SABC bakers and I can't wait to do it again 🥰 It was a lovely sunny day filled with delicious food and great company. #elderflower #icedbuns #breadbun #breadgram #breadfood #crumbshot #bakegram #bakefeed #foodfeed #foodgram #driedflowers #elishaeats #icing #eeeeats #foodphotography #sundayafternoonbakingclub #lemon #picnic

In nearly two years of the #cbcbakealong I have not done a formal post about it on my page. Please indulge me just this once. What is it? A small group of kitchen warriors of all skill levels who bake/cook together once a month. It was designed to be as low stress as possible. Every month a prompt is given and you have the entire month to make whatever you want that fits the prompt. All themes are taken from online resources so that it is always free and accessible to everyone. If you are someone who likes to bake or wants to push themselves to do more baking, and you love the idea of doing it with friends, this is for you! Not a baker? Most months also offer savoury options. I got you! You can always check my bakealong highlight for our current month's theme. It is announced on the 1st of every month in my stories. This braided lemon bread was one of my favourite finds in the bakealong. A recipe I may not have tried otherwise but am so glad I did 😋 Big shout out to those who support this little sugar posse by baking with us or showing love to our posts. I appreciate it, truly. Corn tarts - recipe by @nicolaalamb in Kitchen Projects + I baked them last week for a SABC picnic and gosh what a revelation. I decided on corn tarts as they were low effort and thought they wouldn't clash/overlap with what others had made. It turned out to be sooooo much more. A mega hit and an instant place in the hall of fame. These will be come a regular/signature make for sure. Inspired by Portugese Milk Tarts, these corn tarts have STRONG canele vibes but also are reminiscent of Pasteis de Nata. With caramelised, crisp edges and a softer custard centre (with a slight chew), it's the perfect contrast, in texture but in flavour too (sweet and a slight savoury tone with the corn and char). It really is very very good, and though I'd love to put it down to my skill - it isn't lol. The recipe is v easy and the effort to reward ratio is off the charts. I didn't get a strong corn taste, just a hint. I used frozen corn FYI. Some notes though. I have a very deep muffin pan and so made double the recipe and it made 13. The regular portions won't be as deep, but I followed the same timings and it cooked correctly. I made the mixture the night before and did a test one at 35 mins, it had more char then the next day - where the mixture had been in the fridge for a night and was baked for 45 mins (so 10 mins longer). Not a big difference but something to note. Also, don't be scared of the black char! You want this...it is sooo good and don't mistake it for burnt (though obviously this is within reason). Hard recommend. I really think this is a universal pleaser. I dropped one off for my Mum and when I got back home she rang me instantly to tell me how good it was. I cannot wait to make it again 🙌🏼 Also shout out to @elisha.eats for the first two photos. 2023 part 1. Honestly this year has been the best one yet, January I started a new job. February I saw RIOPY live with Jules. March I spent time with my angels Afia and Whitney. Dyed my hair ginger. April I found my love for tequila and corrupted everyone I could with it. May I spent time with my brothers and tattooed dots on my legs so all my moles were symmetrical. June, we celebrated James and Rebecca’s wedding, and went to Beyoncé. July I dyed jacks hair half green, half pink and then my own highlighter pink. August, back to brunette, theatre date with uncle Steve to see Mr. Kingsley in action and I got to spend time with Emily and Luke and their lovely families. Over half a year down and these are only a small number of my favourite memories. 🖤
