POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This past weekend I spent the day coaching people on camera, from over the operator's shoulder, trying to help them make a room feel something.

In the wrestling business it's called 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘀. A promo is the moment a character talks to the audience and the audience decides whether they care. So you're digging into motivation. What does this person want, and what has it cost them to want it.

I'm not a director. Nowhere near. I stand behind Chloe and look through the viewfinder with her, because if I'm off to the side in any direction I'm just a distraction in someone's eyeline. If I'm going to coach what they're giving the camera, I need to see what the camera sees.

𝗣𝗿𝗼 𝘄𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸. 𝗜𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹.

My favourite quote is that people won't remember what you said, but they will remember how you made them feel. I've leaned on that for fifteen years of writing training, and it turns out it's the whole job here too.

I've written plenty of training for billing managers. The first question is always the same. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲? In recruitment the what is easy, it earns you more money. The how is where it gets hard, and that's where most training quietly falls over.

𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘄𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴. Just louder, and with better lighting.

So I try to give as much time as I can to the wrestlers, crew and volunteers who want the experience. My time, divided by 40+ people, across a six hour event. I don't nail it. Not even close.

But I love what this photo captures. That's what it can take to produce 𝟯𝟬 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.

It helps that I'm a fan of every single person in it, including the man who took it. Photo by the incredible Scott Hammon.

(And yes, still in the green gimmick behind the camera. Workers gotta work.)

And for the L&D crowd. Where do you find yourself doing the job outside the 9 to 5? I'd love to know I'm not the only one

@thenationalwrestlingleague tapings from last Saturday, 27th September.

What a fantastic event with the crowd being incredible. This was so much fun to be apart of and trying something new in operating my camera crane I stead of leaving it stationary.

Got to work with a great team and big thanks goes to @heelturnmedia for getting us there in one piece!

❤️🎥 THANK YOU — WE DID IT! 🎥❤️

🙌🏻Our first 𝘿𝙤𝙣 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙡𝙤𝙨 𝙆𝙧𝙚𝙬 project at Emporium ᑎᖇG was a SUCCESS! 🤩⭐️

☝🏻What started as an idea, something I genuinely didn’t know how people would react to, finally came to life in front of a live crowd—and seeing the reaction, hearing the noise and receiving so much positive feedback afterwards made me incredibly proud. 😃🫶🏻

💁🏻‍♂️For me personally, this was much more than just presenting a wrestling match.🤼

☝🏻It was the first chapter of something I’ve wanted to create for a long time.

🩵🙏🏻A huge thank you to Emporium ᑎᖇG for believing in my idea, trusting me and giving 𝘿𝙤𝙣 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙡𝙤𝙨 𝙆𝙧𝙚𝙬 the opportunity to become part of the show.
I’ll always be grateful for that opportunity. 🩵

🙏🏻Thank you to @smiley_pw and @thenotorioustye_pw for bringing our match to life.👥

Thank you to everyone who helped them around the ring, our ring announcer, the Camera 𝙆𝙧𝙚𝙬, production, lighting, runners and everyone working behind the scenes.

🙌🏻And a massive THANK YOU to all of YOU
who liked, shared, commented, came to the show or simply sent me a message of support.📲

And now… We’ve been asked to DO IT AGAIN! 😎🎥🔥

I can’t wait to see what the future brings.
