How did a group of female beekeepers in Kenya restore an entire coastal ecosystem?

In Makongeni, on Kenya’s coast, the communities most vulnerable women came together to form the Makongeni Beekeepers, producing honey and creating jobs for women and young people in the area. But it didn’t stop at bees. Knowing that bees thrive in a healthy environment, the beekeepers started cleaning up the local mangroves. This restored vital breeding grounds for fish, and fishermen began sharing their catch in return. A cycle of care between people and the land, working hand to hand.

Directed by @chloekeleny, The Makongeni Beekeepers is a film sharing this story. It’s the fifth and film in Human Nature, a series with @earthalliance reconnecting humans with the natural world. Watch now via the link in bio.
