She pursued the dream. Earned the degree. Became the only graduate in her class to land a job in Formula 1.

And instead of celebrating her achievement, some classmates told her she got the job because she was “ticking the diversity box”.

On the latest @timelesswithteddy, Melania Santoro @il_melo_ reflects on breaking into motorsport engineering, the sacrifices her family made to support her ambition, and the microaggressions she encountered after achieving what she had worked towards.

Let’s open this up for debate.

If a woman succeeds in a male-dominated industry, why is her competence sometimes questioned in ways that a man’s might not be?

Is this about genuine concerns over merit, unconscious bias, or a system that still struggles to accept who belongs?

Why are some people’s achievements questioned?

The Latest episode of The KeepitMovin Podcast is out on K.I.M.tv YouTube, press the link in the bio above and subscribe..

In this episode we talk to @azzaruns a young cerebral palsy ultra trail marathon runner, navigating a space where one theres not many peopl me that look like him or have the disability that he has.

One thing when you watch this episode is that despite all of the odds stacked against,he challenges himself more than the average person through tough terrains and elevation .

A little background on what is cerebral palsy ;

Cerebral palsy is a group of lifelong neurological disorders that permanently affect body movement, muscle control, and posture due to abnormal brain development or damage to the developing brain.

Symptoms

Movement delays: Being slow to roll over, sit, crawl, or walk.

Muscle tone issues: Muscles that feel too stiff (hypertonia) or too floppy (hypotonia).

Coordination problems: Stiff muscles, exaggerated reflexes, tremors, or involuntary movements.

Other challenges: Speech delays, swallowing difficulties, vision or hearing problems, and seizures.

Causes and Risk Factors

Brain injury or malformation: Occurs before birth, during delivery, or in early childhood (usually up to age two or three).

Congenital cases: Most cases (85% to 90%) happen before or during birth.

Key risk factors: Premature birth (before 37 weeks) and low birth weight are the most significant risks.

Acquired cases: A small percentage develop after birth due to infections like meningitis or head trauma.

Management and Support

Non-progressive: The underlying brain damage does not get worse over time, though physical symptoms like muscle tightness can change or require ongoing care.

Treatments: While there is no cure, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, medications, and supportive devices help improve independence and daily functioning. You can find localized guidance and support resources through organizations like the UK National Health Service or disability charities like Scope UK.
